Jon Stewart is the best political interviewer on television
I watched his interview of Richard Clarke last night, and it was extraordinary. He was prepared, asked very perceptive questions which brought out key points with no "gothca's", and let him tell his story. He makes the other so-called experts look like a bunch of loser hacks.

2. and Richard Clarke thanked him
for raising the right questions during the war. That was cool.

I thought Stewart was going to be all fawning and goo-goo eyed over Clarke, but he actually asked some good, relevant questions without being a jackass.

7. I like how he minimized the jokes
normally there's a lot more, but this was a serious event.

6. God Damn Liberal Media!

Other so-called experts are on the RNC's payroll.

"There's even a 24 hour news channel that says the exact same thing as the White House. I was thinking how funny that was" - Jon

10. I was unimpressed.
I love Jon, I love DC.

However, there was absolutely nothing new here. If you saw DC on any other talk show and/or his testimony at the 911 commish, there were no new talking points.

Sigh.

12. You're missing the point of DC's TDS appearance.
Very few TV viewers are political junkies like DUers. DC has made multiple appearances to hit different audiences. Sure, for those of us hanging on every word looking for more damning evidence against shrubco, it was anticlimactic. But I would imagine that possibly half of Stewart's audience was either hearing DC for the first time or paying attention to DC for the first time.

DC is sticking to his points and reiterating the same sound bites in the hopes that they'll stick. His many appearances also serve to humanize him, therefore debunking the RW hate machine's attacks. He's done well in every appearance I've seen.

BTW - of all the interviewers, Stewart was the only one who could have possibly thrown Clarke off his game plan. That he chose not to speaks to the fact that he's obviously a Dem. I'm thankful for that.

17. true, the more appearances he make the longer this story stays alive
until the next insider jumps ship, Jon gives exposure that the media deliberately ignores

13. Jon obviously read Clarke's book.
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 11:40 AM by TahitiNut
His questions showed a thorough preparation and familiarity with the subject. While he arguably covered nothing "new" he covered more relevant issues in the 15 minutes than others have done in hours. He also did so in his inimitaby painless way, with a sprinkling of humor and clearly paying attention to Clarke's responses. Jon listens - a trait Wolf is sorely lacking. (If you watch Blitzer closely, you'll see he plows on through his prepared question list almost robotically, even when something was already covered.)

15. Wolfie cannot listen..
The WhiteHouse has an open line to his ear, so they can "correct" anything that the guest says.. I saw him INTERRUPT a guest once with a whitehouse "correction"...WHILE the guest was still speaking..

That's not an "accident".. :(
