VP discussion about now--
Its time for a VP discussion about now----seems to me that Kerry needs a strong running mate at this time----Ive gone all over the candidates in my mind, some good and some an albatross---
I haven't come up with any ideal candidates that would make it for Kerry other then John McCain, and that sure isn't going to happen????

It seems we have already picked a presidential candidate at this time which is really early, so why do we need a democratic convention???? Its old style and maybe we ought to come up with a VP to get an advantage on the Re pukes---one that can really kick ass....

Whats your uptake at this point in the game----????

1. for the last time, McCain IS a republican
i don't care if he's even fairly "moderate", he's still a repuke, and only moderate on some social issues. he's not a dem, and wouldn't make a good one. Edwards would compliment Kerry the most IMHO, while Clark would merely strengthen the traits Kerry already exemplifies.

3. tell me about it, the conjecture never stops
I think I'm starting to dislike it almost as much as the "Hillary's still going to run for pres" talk...

6. Well, it'd be a great coup.
Imagine if McCain switched parties out of disgust with the dishonesty and irresponsibility of the current administration. It's not hard to imagine other moderate Republicans joining him. The theme of the campaign would be the grownups taking charge - putting a stop to the corrosive partisanship, the posturing and positioning, and the endless lying. It'd be a starting point for principled debate and for putting the real needs of the country and its people first in government and politics.

But it's not going to happen. It's just a nice fantasy. I'm satisfied to savor McCain throwing Bush's lies about Kerry back in his face. I wonder if after South Carolina in 2000, McCain promised himself that he wouldn't let Bush get away with that crap again, or whether he's just standing up for one of the only two other Vietnam vets left in the Senate (now that McClellan is gone).

19. Hey---I voted for Edwards
I voted for Edwards-----and he hasn't got what it takes to beat the chimp-----all I meant was that with a Kerry McCain ticket---all bush would have to do is buy a ticket to leave the country because it would all be over----

Now to get back to it----I was trying to get something going where someone would come up with a hell of a candidate for VP---my personal choice would be Bill Richardson, but he wont run-----

I am aware we need some one from the south and Bob Graham isn't the answer---------there must be someone that could make this ticket a real go getter-----Tom Brokaw has even been mentioned----

It just seems to me that Kerry is loosing steam----he needs a Howard Dean but Howard in my estimation isn't the VP choice----

There are plenty of good choices from the north east, but it isn't going to bring in the redneck vote-------

4. "Kerry/Clark ticket would be decorated one-two punch"

According to Conason (6/18/03)
Clark "would be more than an adornment to any Presidential ticket next year.

And whatever the merits of all the other candidates, it would badly complicate Mr. Rove’s "patriotic" strategy if Messrs. Bush and Cheney were required to confront not one but two progressive Democrats who served in Vietnam."

8. Who do we want as POTUS-II in case a freeper takes Kerry out?
THAT is the question we should use to frame the whole discussion, because in this very polarized situation, and with all these freeper-fundie-loonies stalking Dems, whomever John Kerry picks, may be the one that ends up with the #1 slot.

John McCain? THINK about it! Another repuke to take over the reins of government? Some freeper might think that's an excellent opportunity!

I think he should choose someone that would be liberal enough to ensure that Kerry is the preferred alternative. It may be what could save his life someday!

I think John Edwards would be a reasonable alternative. Or Eliot Spitzer -- NY Atty. General! He's been taking the repuke mafia to court, AND WINNING, on a regular basis.

Just my thoughts, but I think we need to be prepared in case somebody decides to "JFK" Mr. Kerry. Remember.... the world we're living in right now is not a sane place.

14. That is a big concern for me...
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 02:38 PM by Blasphemer
But I don't think there is any pick that would keep a wacko Freeper at bay. No matter who the VP choice is, they will treat him or her as the spawn of Satan. Spitzer is from NY and I think it's a waste to have a MA/NY ticket. He should run for Governor of NY or maybe as Atty. General (quite an upgrade from Asscroft).

Anyhow, when I ask myself who I would feel most comfortable taking the reigns if something, God forbid, happened to Kerry, Wes Clark tops the list. But Edwards tops the list when I think in terms of the best campaigner.

15. Definately Clark
ESPECIALLY if a Freeper, God forbid, takes Kerry out.
I'd be concerned for the international future of this country with Edwards.
Graham's a good consideration, too.

I think General Clark would be excellent, as would Bill Richardson from NM... Max Cleland maybe?

I get the feeling that Kerry will not pick Edwards.
