Mesa police ticket 5 in atomic-bomb protest

MESA - Four women and a man were ticketed by police Tuesday night for violating the city's graffiti code after they used chalk to draw figures on public sidewalks near the downtown library and municipal building.

The five are associated with Women in Black, an international pacifist group that calls attention to the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II with chalk silhouettes of bombing victims. Wednesday was the anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing.
