Does Anyone Care About Texas?
As a Texas liberal in exile (New York) thank you DU for the cover story on Texas. It's a big state with a lot of different people.

And check out my newly revamped site:

1. That's a great article...but I have a quibble...
The House Democrats went to Ardmore Oklahoma in the REGULAR session, not the first special session. The first special session failed to get a bill through the Senate before it expired, although the House voted on and passed its bill. The Senate Democrats bolted to Albuquerque right as the second special session was starting up.

Also, one can visit more than just Austin to find liberals. They're all over this state, although there is a higher concentration in Austin. Hence the need for the redistricting maps to split Austin into 3 or 4 districts. :eyes:

True! There was a fair number in San Antonio as well. Though I'd stay away from Dallas.

5. Can we resurrect Henry B.?
I grew up in San Antonio, so I know it has a fair share of liberals (including my parents). Dallas and it's suburbs are scary, but Ft. Worth is fairly liberal in spots (See Lon Burnam).

15. Get ready...
Arkansas and believe it or not, they actually speak ill of bush! Their Senators are Democrats and the state is far better than I had expected. Clinton did alot of great things while he was here and it shows!

I can't believe the whole news story isn't about bush here...still though, lots of bush lovers, but somewhat better.

9. Does Anyone Care About Texas?
I'm from Boston, and as a teenager in November 1963 I remember a lot of people talking about blowing up Dallas and killing any Texan that got near them. So to answer your question, many northeasterners could care less about Texas.

I personally get a kick out of the ones who think they're macho 'Cowboys' out of the 1800's.

er...the incompetance of Dallas security on 11/22 changed the world that day...for the worse.

If your state had a very popular 'favorite son' assassinated in texas only to be replaced by a redneck asshole from Texas (LBJ) you might understand. Since you weren't in Boston in 1963, you couldn't possibly understand the feelings that went on then.

The old whine from those who enjoy being put apon.

News Flash - I, and most of Texas, save one (or more if your an X-Files fan) didn't kill JFK and were sorry he died at all and especially in Texas. My grandmother went to see him earlier that morning and was crushed when she heard the news in the way home.

But if your willing to malign the entire state for that tragedy I'd seriously question who the redneck asshole is.

14. Newsflash Bucko: When news arrived in Boston about how some
texans laughed out loud at JFK's death that day, we had no reason to respect anything in that state. We heard about the bar-room cheering for JFKs death which got their guy LBJ in. We didn't see any texas mourning of any significance....and didn't expect it.

12. Houston here...
We've got liberals in Houston too but we have our fair share of conservatives. I work with a bunch of them. During the 2000 election a co-worker of mine that workes on another floor had to make a complaint to her supervisor because a few of her co-workers would gather daily and bash Gore yucking it up and didn't care how loud they got. I am glad that she spoke up. I asked her recently if anything is said about * from those same people and she said no. I told her she should get a group of her liberal friends and meet daily to bash * and let them hear to see how it feels.
