Walter Reed so overloaded they're putting them in hotels!!!!!!
Randi Rhodes reporting on this. From Moonie Times.

http://www.washtimes.com/metro/20030804-121425-6485r.htm

Officials at Walter Reed Army Medical Center are referring some outpatients to nearby hotels because casualties from operations in Afghanistan and Iraq have overloaded the hospital's convalescence facility.

"We have an informal agreement with any number of hotels in the area. If we come to this point, they will take for us," said Walter Reed spokesman Jim Stueve. "They're very supportive and cooperative when we need that assistance."

Mr. Stueve could not specify how many soldiers are in hotels, but said Walter Reed is referring about 20 patients or their relatives to hotels each day. Hotels in Silver Spring, just across the D.C. line, offer discounted rates for outpatients and their families, and the military pays the bill.

--snip--

The hospital has 40 of 250 beds available for inpatients, but must continually open beds for new arrivals from Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany or the U.S. Naval Hospital in Rota, Spain.

"We have flights coming in almost every night from Landstuhl, so you don't book that sucker up solid so when you have your No. 1 priority come in, you say, 'You can't stay here,' " Mr. Stueve said.

That is still at Walter Reed. He was sitting in the front seat of a Humvee when a hand granade was tossed between him and the guy driving. The driver was killed. He lost hearing and has multiple fragments that will not be removed festering in his legs and hip.

3. I don't believe it. I visited my brother there when he came back
from Vietnam and there were wards upon wards upon wards for injured soldiers. Unless, they had built special facilities for the Vietnam vets and have since closed them down, I don't see how it's possible to run out of room unless they are not telling us A LOT!!!!

4. The current building was designed with capacity of 1,280 beds
and during the Gulf War had 1,000 beds in operation. That fact is surprising since we've been told what a minimal number of soldiers were injured in the Gulf War. If it expanded to 1,000 beds in the first Gulf War, why haven't they done so for this war? Or are they hiding that fact?
