I like Al Sharpton

I really do. He's brash, funny (the crack last night about the non-union cab driver, for example), and spot-on with the issues. I think he came off better than the others in the debate, especially Kucinich, whom I thought was okay until I heard his whiny speechifying. He's respectful of the other candidates ("I didn't think we'd get nasty till September") and hammers Bush at every turn.

Anyway, I think Sharpton is breath of fresh air. I'm glad he's running.

1. Another plus for Sharpton
He may bring in a lot of voters who would not normally vote.
More voters for Dems=less voters for Bush.

4. I liked what he said about Ashcroft
That we have an attorney general that can't find corporate crime, but can put union leaders under investigation. That got a big round of applause.

5. I do, too.
I didn't really know a lot about the man until recently. It really pisses me off that people call him "Crazy Al."

6. Sharpton Gets Things Done
Al Sharpton's reputation isn't based simply on sound bites, although he's known for his quick wit. He does more than talk, he gets things done. When the Queens District Attorney dismissed the Howard Beach murder as "an unfortunate incident" Sharpton organized a picket that forced indictments. Justice would not have been served had it not been for Al Sharpton.

In the Democratic primary, I will be proud to vote for Al Sharpton.

10. Sharpton made racial profiling a national issue
When the NJ State Troopers shot four unarmed teenagers, the police were not going to investigate until SHarpton got involved and made it a national issue.

7. I've considered getting a Sharpton 2004 Bumper Sticker
but then decided it might be taken as a joke if I were to put one on my car. But I like Sharpton too.

8. LOVED his remark about the non-union cab driver.
I will admit the only exposure I've had to Sharpton until now was the whole Tawana Bradley affair. I can't even remember specifically what it was about and confess ignorance to him in general. I'm afraid that a lot of people would probably have the same attitude and wouldn't even think of giving him a second glance.

9. Sharpton is being amazingly sharp
Unfortunately the Tawanda Brawley (sp?) episode has marred his image in the public. I'll admit it even made me think he was a bit of a hyperactive nut. But what he has been saying lately, it's like a whole different person than what he was. And his wit isn't something one can be coached on, you are either sharp or not.

I hope he doesn't go Geraldo on us.

16. Tawana Brawley
Tawana Brawley came to Sharpton, saying she'd been attacked by white guys and smeared with shit. Sharpton responded to her the same way he would have to anyone else. It turns out that Tawana Brawley made it up.

If Sharpton made a mistake here, it was a mistake on the side of compassion. To this day he maintains that something must have happened to her.

13. If nothing else, I'd like to see him in the Cabinet somewhere
Something domestic, like HHS or Labor.

If my corrupt Ex-Governor is qualified to be HHS Secretary, then Al Sharpton surely is too.

Or how about a pro-Union Labor secretary? That would be a nice change, wouldn't it?

It would give him some federal level experience, too.

15. He would at least have a salary
And be able to afford his own suits.

I just can't get behind a candidate who destroyed a man's life and never apologized.

14. Sharpton's fabulous wit
is what drove me to want to know more about him.

He knows the issues and has well thought out plans that would help mend our broken democracy.

I sincerely hope he will be some part of our Democratic administration in 2005!
