As A Veteran, I am ASHAMED
<snip>

''The Americans took my car for nothing,'' said Nabey, recalling on Saturday how US troops seized the automobile 10 days earlier when Nabey became embroiled in a roadside altercation. ''I will get permission from the judge to get it back.''

<snip>

''The value of a life in Iraq, I hate to say it, is probably worth less that it would be in the United States or Britain,'' said the senior military official. He said he realizes that placing a small monetary value on the life of an innocent Iraqi sounds ''callous.''

''I don't mean that,'' he said.

Iraqis who want to recoup their property or be compensated for losses should hand their requests directly to US military units, which will then submit them for evaluation, Warren said. However, anecdotal evidence abounds that personal possessions and large stashes of cash have been lost, misplaced, or forgotten by American troops who are concerned primarily with their military mission.

That mission gives US troops plenty of room to avoid paying claims to Iraqis. Indeed, any claim for losses suffered before May 1, when President Bush declared major combat over, is presumed to be excluded from compensation, the senior Army official said.

sigh
Ive been ashamed for sooooooooo long concerning US policy I dont remember having NOT been ashamed. The longer this bloody circus over there goes on, the more dehumanized it will get...Its a racist war, also, and a religious war when the teeth of truth tear off the lies and BS that the Bush administration blathers daily..
Young men and women in their 20s are NOT exactly ambassadors of tolerance, in the service, as I have seen ..teenagers with guns is how I have heard it described, and HOW many of these kids were educated as to Iraq's regional history, religions, etc...I doubt any of them...
It will get worse and worse as this goes on...........

2. This is so sad.
So many people there have very little anyway, and they have to fight to get back what little they have of value. No wonder they are tired of the US occupation. It's a sad situation when the people you ar trying to "help" end up with less than when they were under Hussein.

4. I'm ashamed of you
for being such a quisling.

I mean what the hell is this, if Bush ordered the 101st to kill every firstborn Iraqi male you would just shut up and wave your flag lest it hurt morale?

14. Good for you
obviously you lack the good sense to know when you are being lied to so maybe you ought to leave making judgements about what's happening in the real world instead of what your television tells you to think to people who do better at it.

6. The troops seem to complain alot more about Bush and Rumsfeld...
...than they do about us posters on DU.

If you want to know why morale is low, why don't you read some of what they are writing home about?

Start here:
http://www.hackworth.com/

Read the Feedback from Iraq section.

Regarding the grand theft committed by our troops I have one question: Are we supposed to be the 'good guys' or not? If so, do the 'good guys' steal from civilians?

11. 'face reality", huh?
What the hell do you think war is all about? Dressing up in a uniform to march in a victory parade?

It drives men to savagery. Always has, always will. It is the nature of war. There is no civilized war.

19. american troops are in the field...
...being thugs and enforcers for the Bush* junta. There's nothing noble about their mission or the way they're conducting it. Stop shilling for war criminals behind the banner of patriotism.

7. I think that I remember you writing that you were

with a tank crew. What made you join up?

Just Curious.

I never had the wont or opportunity.

My father was a AF Seargent in the Korean war ....ahem excuse me Korean conflict, and the one thing that he always had his say on is that "No son's of mine will be sent off to die in some F%@#@%#&#!!! war!"

He kept his oldest out of Viet Nam, the middle two and his youngest (me) were spared any real conflict.

He recently threw away all of his photos, etc. from the war.

He doesn't care to talk about it, but I know that he (despite being a Republican: he didn't vote for *) he hates what is going on right now.

17. the only reports that "things are going well in Iraq " are from
US propaganda media like faux news and MSRNC to name a couple. Try a little news from over seas like International Herald Tribune, Asia Times and the BBC for starters. They have no reason to LIE to prop up a corrupt administration like our own US "news" does.

13. Matcom, the only vets who need to be ashamed
are those who have acted without honor. I don't believe you would be that kind of man.

And I'd like to believe there are still decent American soldiers who can act humanely and compassionately.

Both American soldiers and Iraqi citizens have been put in harm's way by someone who has no shame. It does no good to feel shame for him. What we need to do is stop him.
