First Poll On Tonight's Debate That I've Found
Presidential Forum
8/5/2003

By Kevin Wuzzardo/WCJB TV-20 News
The next presidential election is still more than a year away. But the votes are already being counted. Tuesday night, the AFL-CIO got a head start with a Presidential Forum in Chicago. Union members and others here in Gainesville got together at a local union hall to watch the Democratic hopefuls talk about issues important to working people.

The Gainesville viewers also held a straw poll. Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich led the way with about a third of the vote, followed by Vermont Governor Howard Dean and Massachusetts Senator John Kerry. Tonight's straw poll is believed to be the earliest in our area.

1. Amazing!
The very liberal, undeniably liberal Kucinich wins the debate and the DLC is still saying that the Americans don't want liberal policy?

5. I didn't see the debate, but Mike Malloy (a Kucinich devoutee) had some
callers on who said Kucinich's closing comments were cut off due to an electrical storm in D.C. (which I've heard from others was indeed a big storm).

But even so, it sounds like people liked DK. He's an articulate scrapper and I heard he really applied the pressure on the other candidates to take a stand on some issues.

9. An AFL/CIO International organizer I know
says that Kucinich is labor's "dream candidate."

Our grass roots organizing is less dependent on the internet than Dean's because so many of the people DK appeals to don't have computers...but soon we will see a big SURGE that will encourage labor that DK has widespread support!!

10. You know I think you're right
DK appeals to rural farmers and workers who generally dont have computers. We may have to do this the old fashion way , but if we can get the momentum Dean got, I think we can do something very special with it.

14. DK will be Rove's "dream" candidate also
He'll rip Kucinich over reducing the Pentagon budget. Kucinich is the real McGovern-like candidate.

12. Hmm this is interesting
I really had written DK off entirely. The only one I liked more than him was Carol Mosely-Braun and she had about as much chance in the primary as I do to win a Nobel.
