Gov't Won't Release Terror Financing List
Gov't Won't Release Terror Financing List

By KEN GUGGENHEIM, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Treasury Department (news - web sites) rejected a request from senators Tuesday and refused to release a classified list of Saudi individuals or organizations suspected of financing terrorist groups.

-- snip--
Administration attorneys are reviewing the degree to which the classified information can be provided or shared with Congress in closed session, said a government official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The refusal to release the list marks the second time in two weeks that the Bush administration has rejected requests by senators to declassify information about Saudi ties to terrorists.

1. Colin thinks that it's ok.....we can do other things
"Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) said Saudi Arabia has been "especially aggressive" in responding to U.S. terrorism requests for help. In an interview broadcast Monday to Arab countries, Powell told U.S.-financed Radio Sawa the Saudis are finding caches of weapons and ammunition that were intended for terror attacks in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.

But, Powell said, "There are always more things that all of us can do." Specifically, Powell said, "We still have issues with respect to financing, and how money gets to charitable organizations."

2. Thank you for posting this!
Various members of the Bush administration are so tied to the Saudis that this is getting ridiculous!

At least Shrub is refusing requests from senators . . . hopefully, they won't let this go. I am going to e-mail my 2, Boxer & Feinstein, right now and I have you to thank for bringing the issue into focus. :toast:

3. we should poll the americans...do we want to know who financed the
terrorists...? Sounds pretty logical to me.

But does the media give a "rats ass" about pursuing this issue...hell no!

let's ask Liberman...and the rest....whoever says "leave it"...they just lost any consideration in my mind.

This is what the hell got us to where we are at.

7. Graham's been on this issue for ages
This was the reason why he voted against the Iraq war. He wanted to go after the real terrorists.

5. Is the Senate being allowed to read it?
Because I can't tell from this. They seem unwilling to allow CONGRESS to read what the hell they've done.

Which sounds like another impeachable offense.
