I was at lunch today (Aug. 5) and saw General Myers on the tube with Don VonRumsfeld.
The sound was off, but I read the captions, and Myers said something like:
"It is remarkable the ability of our soldiers to go from fighting mode to the mode of helping Iraqis rebuild their country."
This same message was put out by the very creepy Paul Wolfowitz (sp?) when he speechified before some senate committee last week (Senators Boxer, Feingold, that nut Brownback, Lugar, et al. were asking about $$$ to pay for this bullshit invasion...)
If I recall, Paul W. commented about how neat it was to see the creative and imaginative ways the troops were in their efforts to rebuild the nation.
Who is the junta really talking to when they say shit like this, and what does the junta hope to achieve by repeating this mantra?
I think I know the answers to my own questions, but I would like to hear from other people about their guesses as to who the real audience is for this propaganda, and what the defense dept hopes to achieve by repeating this particular message. Again: why the emphasis on the "amazing" ability of soldiers to move from "fighting mode" to "helping mode"??
Also, does anybody have other recent examples of this particular message coming out of the junta (mostly out of defense dept.) saying how great the troops are at moving from fighting mode and into "rebuilding the nation mode"?
