Do widows get less benefits from non-combat deaths?
Is that why such a disproportionate number of GI deaths in Iraq are being designated non-combat?

Bushco is just cheap enough to rob a family of its rightful benefits.

And are they shorting wounded GIs in the same way?

I know one thing- I would not be AT ALL surprised!

3. Oh, well that's good to know
So they're playing games with the cause of death solely for political and PR purposes, not to chisel widows and orphans. I feel marginally better.

Welcome to DU, crimson333! :hi:

5. From what I remember
The death benefit is the same, irregardless of the cause of death, and
the SGLI is dependent on what the soldier signed up for.

As for the wounded they don't get a benefit exactly, beacause they are
still alive. They do get medical treatment, physical therapy, and other things. Some will be given disability when they get out, others
might get a medical retirement, those that leave the service will then
have to depend on the VA to provide any treatment that they might require.

I spent 13 years on active duty with the US Army, spent about 3 months
assigned to a JAG office, worked in admin, and I was an NCO. Of course
that was when NCO's took care of their troops.
