U.S. Critical Mass Approaching
At first, it might not seem very obvious in our Faux-driven media, but as someone who has long observed our recent social trends and actions, I can't help but feel right now that we are on the verge of something big... something almost certainly catastrophic.

Consider the following. Our nation's millitary is spread out, maxed out to its very limits and engaged in conflicts around the world, at war primarily for OIL, all the while back at home, Americans are demanding increasingly larger SUVs with little regard for their poor fuel economy. Our federal, state and local governments are literally drowning beneath a sea of ill-founded, tax-cut-induced deficits. Unemployment continues to climb with no hope of recovery in sight as Corporations downsize, right-size and relocate the surviving service and tech-sector jobs out of the U.S. to far-away India, Ireland and Eastern Europe. Our underfunded schools are crumbling, endangering our youth, while college tuition is skyrocketing, putting the benefits of higher education -- including hope for personal success and a stable, better future -- increasingly beyond their reach.

The average American seems content with knowing only what the conservative/Faux-dominated media tells him, remaining blissfully unaware that his leaders are the vilest, most rotten bunch of scoundrels ever to smile in his face while covertly picking his pockets empty, figuratively plunging a knife into his back in the process. The President himself is anything but; Rather, he is a silver-spooned empty suit of a dolt, painted by his handlers as a swashbuckling, all-American everyman.

With its financial solvency shot, and our country's social and political solvency soon to follow, our very stability right now depends upon the perpetuation of this massive charade of American superiority and imminent, returning prosperity by the Bush cabal, Big Business, and the ascendant Neo-Conservative wing of the Republican Party. Much sooner than later, however, the dream will end, and Americans will at long last wake up to a nightmarish reality of government-crushing debt, a devestating decade-long depression, and a superpower-vanquishing defeat in the Mideast.

Perhaps at such time, Americans may finally begin asking those questions most critical of their leaders.

2. I agree with you...
I bought a piece of land and am growing most of my own food. We added an electric generator to the house along with solar panels. We're also working on getting all of our finances straight. Things are going to continue to spiral as long as chimpy is in office.

3. Not approaching soon enough, methinks....
So far it appears that we are in for a long, drawn-out and painful death of the Old Republic. The longer the people in this country cling to their delusions and denial, the more things will gradually degenerate.

What worries me is that the relative gradualness of the process keeps people from really waking up and noticing. They just keep adjusting to a new "normal", like victims of abuse.

"Each act, each occasion, is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for the one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join with you in resisting somehow."

I would rather things did not have to get really horribly worse before there's a turn-around -- but I'm not at all confident that that will be so....

9. Dangerous thinking. . .
There's no guarantee that a turn-around will happen if things get bad enough.

Dark Ages in the past have lasted for many centuries.

7. Then it will be a fight.

It's not very easy to order your troops to fight for you at at home (it will be hard for those that will be ordered to fire on their contrymen ...and women) when your military is steached thin: many of them overseas.

In the words of our worst president ever "Bring 'em on!"

5. The arrogant tone of your post really angers me
Acting like you know more than most Americans is not going to convince them to change their minds. Also hoping for the worst is simply wrong.

12. Still in denial huh? been there........
You'll move on to the next step soon.

Come-on now........ You think that the people here at DU are gonna form into some sort of political super hero and save the US from it's ultimate doom?? Take a good look at the reply counts to most threads here.... 30, 50 maybe a 100 replies?? Don't get me wrong, I think DU is awsome and found to be on track to alot of issues, DU rocks in my book and I to am still clinging to some form of hope, other wise I wouldn't be here. But damn man we are a small bunch.I live in the noorthwest and have been to protests and local workgroups and witnessed many speakers and bro, I hate to tell you....we are outnumbered. I personally think it has become a machine that cannot be turned off, It will run untill it breaks down. Democracy has been corrupted just as communism did. We cannot control our own greed. I think at the heart of it, Man himself cannot be trusted. If man doesnt show that its at least willing to try by electing Dean or Kucinich as prez bro,I think I'm going to Flip The Fuq out........
