What has been Issa's reaction to Schwarzenegger running?
I myself was very surprised to hear Arnold Schwarzenegger's decision to run for Governor of California. Everything I'd been hearing seemed to indicate that he was prepared to endorse Riordan. Does this mean that Riordan is hoping to take on Barbara Boxer in 2004?

From what I've read on DU, Congressman Darrell Issa has personally financed much of the California recall effort, because he himself wants to be Governor. That seems pretty transparent to me, but such is the case in a time where people from both sides of the political aisle basically purchase public office for themselves.

Since Schwarzenegger is a legendary celebrity, and I imagine he's much more well-known statewide than Issa is, does this mean Issa's chances of becoming Governor have now become virtually non-existent? After all, won't Issa and Schwarzenegger be competing with each other for votes on the recall ballot?

And what about Bill Simon? (he's the one whom I really didn't want to see win) Is he still hoping to run and win?

12. I love Josh Marshall's Godfather reference on this
According to press reports, Issa had to fight back tears when making his announcement today. Now at first I figured Issa was tearing up because he'd spent such a big chunk of change on what's turning out to be someone else's party. But then I realized that wasn't it at all. He was just thinking how much more money he's going to have to spend to replace that sheet set and mattress and that fancy duvet because of the mess from that decapitated horse head he found in his bed this morning.

I mean, where do you think the call that got Issa outta this race came from? Yeah, me too ...

14. I wouldn't worry about Issa...
or feel too sorry for him.

I'm sure the party will pay him back tenfold. Maybe he'll head a commitee or something. Maybe they'll run him for even higher office. If he loses his position he'll still be set for life in some cushy unelected position.
