'a condom stuffed full of walnuts' (Ca Recall/Arnold)
Edited on Thu Aug-07-03 08:58 PM by God_bush_n_cheney
Arnold Schwarzenegger, the bodybuilder turned actor who was once described as 'a condom stuffed full of walnuts', has ambitions to become California's next governor. It wouldn't be the first time a Hollywood star took office, but, asks Johann Hari, how scary is the idea of the star of 'Terminator' making the rules?

January 2003

When Ronald Reagan decided to run for the governorship of California, politics-watchers all over the United States chuckled. They even had a joke that was guaranteed to make everyone crack up – imagine if Reagan, that dumb right-wing schmuck, that fool who has only "acted" in a series of lame action movies and comedies, became President! Oh, how they laughed. We all know what happened next. Well, get your Valium out if you don't want to panic: Arnold Schwarzenegger is about to run for Governor of California, and I ain't laughing this time.

This piece is very good and gives more of an insight into Arnold's makeup. I was unaware his father was NAZI...yikes...that bothers me...does it bother anyone else? Are we for Conan the Republican?

1. Sounds like an abused kid.
And the abused often become abusers themselves. Now Ah-nuld is trying to abuse the people of California. Jeez.

2. He was treated
very badly from an early age. Reminds me of my 2 nephews. One was abused the other was not.

12. Why did the article not have the photos below of Arnie's Mistress?
Gigi Goyette with Arnold Schwarzenegger, 53 -National Enquirer says seven years of cheating on his wife Maria Shriver, 45, with Gigi Goyette, 42 with photos of the terminator-loved lady in the bikini and at Arnies side.

8. of course not
but fairness has gone out the window in american politics. was FL 2000 fair? is the TX redistricting fair? was it fair that clinton's court picks were tied up in the senate forever? is the recall election fair, that requires davis to get a MAJORITY while his successor only needs a PLURALITY? was watergate fair? was iran-contra fair? was the "october surprise" fair? were bush's lies about Iraq fair?

the republicon notion of fairness is "whatever we can get away with".

and they will continue to operate in this manner until they are thrown out of office, or until they get a taste of their own medicine.

15. Was Bush helped by who is father is?
Was Cynthia McKinney was hurt by things HER father said?

Why should it be a forbidden topic in this? It's been brought into the debate before both positively and negatively.

17. Especially for organizations his father quit
before he was even born?

So therefore Senator Byrd having been a Klansman isn't important because it was long ago, but what Arnold's dad did before Arnold was born is important.

Brilliant.

7. reagan at least had more of a political background
When Ronald Reagan decided to run for the governorship of California, politics-watchers all over the United States chuckled.

reagan had been a conservative political commentator for awhile before running for office. he may have been a bumbler, but at least his repertoire wasn't limited to haltingly-enunciated one-liners.

reagan also had the backing of a cabal of rich power brokers. who's behind arnie?

16. the Nazi angle
and attacking him on it actually HELPS his campaign and should be dropped, IMO. Such an easy out for him, and he can turn it into a positive very easily, and make the accusor look downright stupid.

Much easier to just attack him on the REAL issues, he has no answers other than movie lines for that at this point.
