Aren't the People of CA smart enough NOT to elect Ahnold?
(Let me make sure I get 5 sentences in here, presumably not counting this one.) I realize this is a huge MEDIA event. But isn't that ALL it is, really? The guy is a popular movie star (note that I intentionally did not use the word "actor"). But aren't the people of California marginally intelligent enough to realize that that's **all** he is, a movie star? Or are they really that stupid tht they would vote for him? Because if they are, then California DESERVES the Terminator. I know what you're saying, this is the same state that elected Raygun. But this is 2003, and the state is in a fiscal crisis.

So my question is this: How much support do you think the Terminator will ultimately get? Responses from California are particularly welcome.

1. What will make ANYTHING possible is ...
the huge field of candidates.

Who the heck knows what will happen. Governor Coleman would not surprise me a bit.

2. I hope so, but there are a lot of dumb Californians too.
Also, Arnold could win with a few votes if he gets the most votes of around 300 candidates and if Davis doesn't win the recall. It is really stupid isn't it? How did these laws get in place when we Californians were going about our business and work?

6. sensible californians
... should vote against the recall simply because of the fact that if the recall succeeds, davis's successor could win with only 0.5% of the vote. out of a field of 200+ candidates, it's a crap shoot who will end up on top.

ahnold has great name recognition, but what is his platform for cleaning up "the mess" in the state?

and why would anyone think that a multi-millionaire hollywood actor would have any understanding of the average person's problems and needs?

3. Depends
If the anticipated 6% turnout becomes a reality, it may very well happen. Get people to vote and maybe it won't.

7. 6%? Jesus !
That's pathetic.
When people vote, Democrats win. Period.
There needs to be a focus on getting people to vote. Thankfully, I've seen some news blurbs from Californians, and they weren't too jazzed about Ahnold.
Maybe that's some positive news.

4. Here is how I see it:
If the people truely are concerned about the state of California they will NOT elect Mr. Schwatenegger.
They will either defeat the recall or they will support it but instill a candidate that has experience and stands for principle
such as Cruz Bustamante or Arianna Huffington!

If the allow Arnie Boy to get in then they will truely be THAT STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8. In 1964 there was a huge earthquake in Alaska
20 to 30-foot waves were expected to hit the coast of California as the giant tidal wave crossed the Pacific Ocean. What did the residents of the Golden State do to protect themselves? They went down to the beach to watch.

9. I remember that
I was living in LA at the time, and bunches went down to the beach cities to watch the tsunami(sp?) come in. KTLA showed this tiny little ripple when it came in. Fun times.

11. Only the ding dongs
I think only the ding dongs would vote for him! Repugs won't vote for him just to have a repug in the office. Come on really! No some other scheming little one of the bush bandits will run instead. I don't think will run. His wife's a dem and I think he'll in the 11th hour will pull his support with the help of the ding dongs into the repugs real schemer.

13. That occurred to me earlier
But I read in LBN that Riordan just announced he's not going to run. He was who the Bushes wanted in the first place. So who else would they run? Isn't the deadline for getting on the ballot this weekend?

15. I wouldn't be so sure
They had a news bit on the Ah-nuld candidacy on Japanese TV last night, showing him getting a warm reception on the Leno show. Then they interviewed some of his supporters. One ditzy lady exclaimed: "I'm SOOOO glad we have Arnold to get back at these damn Democrats!"

14. As a Californian
And listening to some radio shows, I am distressed that name recognition is so highly valued. Arnold may have a chance yet, but IMHO he does not have a clue how to solve California's woes.

I think Bustamante will get the big time Latino vote here and kick Arnold's terminated ass.

17. He has a correspondence school degree
but he has also been politically active. As I stated on another thread, he had a ballot proposition that was on the ballot last election that passed handily for after school programs so he has been politically active in California.

That gives him credibility with some but his ballot initiative is also a MANDATE to spend money on this program which actually drains it away from the school budget.

BTW, two words for ya...JESSE VENTURA.

20. Jesse Ventura
is right NSMA, and how. I voted against that after school program resolution for the reason that it drains money from school budgets, but it went through regardless.
