CA DUers--recall news
Edited on Fri Aug-08-03 12:25 AM by Capn Sunshine
I met today with a very organized, really energized group of Union folk here in So Cal.

Not to worry. The unions recognize the recall for what it is: a threat against all the gains made by the unions under the Grey Davis administration. They know the code words folk like Ahhnold use: "Business friendly" = kill unions. Out with the 8 hour day. Out with prevailing wage. The whole shebang. It's no accident that disinformation from the media claims that California is "not business friendly". Nothing could be farther from the truth. I am in the busines of financing businesses, and the business environment in California is not the problem. Washington DC is. But the Union is strong here. THAT is one of the core issues they hope to defeat.

The unions, and I was with at least 50 different locals reps today ARE ON THIS BIG TIME. They have dedicated a minimum of 2.5 million to the anti-recall effort, and more is rolling in from the locals as they report.

Where they are weak is where DUers are strong: INTERNET!
Please email me at :
LMFinancialP@hotmail.com if you are willing to join in an internet mail campaign. First thing I wil be sending is the talking points.
If you have the time, call any local union rep or AFL -CIO in your area and volunteer. They are already ramped up on this and will welcome your call. But by all means, email me!

Our plan is to motivate the democratic base and shove this thing down their ba*#@rd throats. So they give up on this as a strategy elsewhere. Help me out here.
:)

I won't be able to add anything to the plate until the beginning of September but I can get the schedules of folks I know and go from there.

5. Oh yes, rank and file is key to this
we have a massive phone campaign organized, using union data which I would kill for in the Dean organization.

BTW they were really glad to have a rep from the national Dean campaign there...another post though

17. How are the efforts going?
I know the unions defeated a right to work measure in California in 1996 or was it 1998?

18. it was 98. Then in 2000 was the "paycheck protection " fight
where it imposed this HUGE bureaucracy if unions wanted to take money out of a workers check for a political fund---something they have always done; taken like 2 bucks during an election year.

Well, the "paycheck protection " initiative , aka 266 was also defeated at the polls.

7. Business friendly also means de-regulation.
De-regulation of environmental and labor practices. Not to mention huge tax loop holes, that will still leave the majority of Californians short changed.

Code words: reform, de-regulation, business friendly.

14. Yet, no one brings up Petey Wilson.
Which by the way, Ahnold was the money and the handler of both of Pete Wilsons campaigns.

11. BTW post this in CAMPAIGNS TOO
but do it tomorrow or later just to get a critical GD mass of Ca Du'ers.

In fact, once we keep it kicked in GD fr a while you can actually request to have the thread moved to another slower forum.

22. It would surely be to Union Labor's best interest ~
Which is not a problem for me. I still hold an Operating Engineers: 501 card out of Wilmington, CA. There was some dweeb on CNN today yak-yak-yaking about how the Rove/RNC/Halliburton-Harkin-Big-Oil-Bechtel/Bush-Family-Oligarchy Admin will capture Cali so that they can then give Nixon-Bush-Cheney-Carlyle a 'shoe in' vis-a-vis Cali's electoral votes.

Then...

Mark my words; they there will be no more union jobs in Cali; they will all be out-sourced and/or scabbed out.

Time to pony-up & dump this chump ~
