Meet Ups -- is anyone in DU going to them?
I went to my first Meet Up in Albany NY the other day, just to check it out. It was a Dean Meet Up although I an not ready to whole heartedly throw my support to anyone at this point.
The organizers said the first meet up in March had only 20 people. The one I went to was one of two locations in Albany, each with at least 40-50 people.
More than 200 people were signed up for Dean meet ups. This compares with less than 40 people signed up for Kerry Meet ups in Albany.
The Dean Meet up was highly organized. They asked participants to hand- write letters supporting Dean to undecided Democrats in New Hampshire and Iowa.
I was wondering if anyone else is involved in Meet Ups for Dean in other locations or for other candidates. Is this the norm for these meetings?

1. There are a lot of people going to meetups. I missed this one because
it was my son's birthday, but they are invigorating, intense and a heck of a lot of fun. Whether Dean gets the nod or not, I sleep better at night knowing there are real live people who are just as disgusted with the current administration as I am.

3. Yes....
I've been to 3 or 4. The Dean meet-up in Ann Arbor is so large that we've needed a microphone at the last 2.

4. Kucinich Seattle Meetups
My sister attended a Seattle DK meetup the other day. There were 2 in town, each one had about 35 people. She sold all her DK bumper stickers and buttons.

5. I've been to 5 Dean Meetups and help co-host the one in eastern CT
My first 2 were in Worcester, MA area and in July, Norwich, CT had it's first Meetup in my neck of the woods in northeastern CT. Norwich, CT had one again in August in Groton, which is in southeastern CT.

We're trying to get the Meetup in the Norwich area so that it is more centrally located for both ends of CT.

I co-host the Norwich, CT Dean Meetup. Tonight I hope my brand new Compaq laptop has arrived so I can use it for the Sep Dean Meetup. This way I'll be able to let Gov. Dean speak in his own words to the group.

6. I organized my own Dean Meetup this week
36 people showed up (and we're in a small rural town). One of the attendees was the local Dem candidate for the US House.

We're already looking into a larger venue for next month.

:-)

7. The St. Louis Dean meetups are growing and getting
more organized as it goes. We have great guidance from the national campaign. This week there were around 200 in attendance. We have outgrown our space and will have two locations next month.

As far as organization, asthe group grows it looks like more people are becoming involved and there are more hands to get things done.

This month's topic was reaching out to the non-Internet crowd. We have some big new projects already in the works for next month to achieve his goal. The great thing about the Dean campaign is that we don't just talk and plan what we are going to do. We do it and it is damn fun too.

8. I host the New Orleans Kerry Meetup
and, yes, we're far behind the Dean people, but we're working.

And it's exciting. We have a couple of people who are VERY active--getting letters in the paper, handing out material at various events, etc.

I highly recommend it for people who want to get actively involved in the process.

10. That's great Tpub.
I hope all the candidates get their act together on the meetups. When we pick our candidate we can merge all these efforts and have an energized base of volunteers for the general election.

12. I know, can you just picture the huge number
of people who will already be organized for grassroots support after the convention? There's no way we will lose. Some people are finally coming to their senses.

One of the most active people working for us voted for Reagan, then went Independent, and now is a very vocal Democrat. Slowly, but surely...

11. San Diego for Dean
My daughter and I attended our third Dean MeetUp in downtown San Diego. There are now four Dean MeetUp venues around San Diego County, where there used to be only two. We always have a great time and meet interesting new people.

14. I've been going to the Dean Meetups in my area since March. . .
and we've switched venues several times to accommodate the increase in people showing up.

Last Meetup a few days ago drew about 70 people.

16. Clark Meetup
last Monday was terrific. The numbers are really growing nationally. The local Meet Up jumped from 13 last month to over 50 this month. This is another amazing grassroots organization. THe Draft Wesley Clark site is getting high traffic and the over 30,000 people have signed letters asking Clark to run.

17. I've gone to two Dean meetups in SF.
The first one had about 25 people,I skipped a month, and the last one (this week) had about 75. I was impressed that they actually had us do something (write letters) useful. I'll definately be at the next one.
