Have you ever had a hood forced over your head?
in 100+ degree heat in a room with no windows?

Have you ever been stripped naked after being bound as a prisoner and told you must do unspeakable acts or you would be immediately killed?

What are you probably thinking about?

Your family. Your wife. Your children

They KNOW that. They use that.

Who would you save in order to not only avoid personal punishment, but punishment, mutilation or death of your family members?

What would you say in the face of torture by what must seem to be the devil himself?

Probably anything that would, first, save your family, and second, yourself.

Anyone posts anymore of these ignorant frat-boy, video game posts with inane questions, and I swear, I will transform into anti-matter and the results be damned.

What is WRONG with people?

Sure, propaganda. Sure, lack of education. Sure, youth.

I no longer give a shit about excuses.

Anyone who in any way defends mental/physical/emotional torture of other human beings is no longer capable of discussing anything.

I don't know what caused the genesis of that thinking. I have ideas, but have no interest in getting too close to the fire.

There are them and those, dees and dem, us'ns and you'ns.

That's the facts, maam.

1. Putting hoods on Iraquis arrestees isn't an aberration.
Putting hoods on Iraquis arrestees isn't an aberration.

It's standard procedure in Iraq that American soldiers put hoods over the people they arrest in Iraq.

That is why the responsibility for humiliating the Iraquis goes up to Bush.

4. It's insane.
bind, hood, humiliate and torture.

Yeah! That's how to win a war!

Bush holds the responsibility for so many things, we would need to expand the bandwidth of this board to hold them all.

3. Sheer social pathology, utter depravity
For the sake of argument, let's allow that the POWs with the hoods being posed naked simulating "sinful" sex acts were really nasty, rotten Iraqis, awful to deal with.

In the same situation, I might lose my temper with the creep. and I might slug him as hard as I can. That would be a normal human response. I bet that's how perhaps 85% of humans would react in an identical situation.

But posing for pictures with men you have stripped naked and are forcing to assume obscene poses, or have made stand on a box while attached to wires -- that's not in any way shape or form a normal, natural human response. It is utterly depraved.

Some sociological studies have shown that *some* people can be pressured into actions against their moral values (like torturing someone), but the folks in this photo look like Team Leaders, doncha think?

In their own small way, they are acting out the George W Bush fantasy of subjugation and power. Same vibe.

5. I think the hood thing must be hideous and magnify everything to come

...I cannot understand anyone actually getting pleasure from this except people whose self esteem is so low that to have the power over another's pain is the only way they can feel powerful.

a modern army should be teaching it's soldiers about humanity as well as how to fight..even from a purely practical aspect..torturing prisoners and creating hate amongst them and other Iraqis puts your fellow soldiers lives at risk.

It's all just another indicator of what a disaster this enterprise has been..and those that made it happen should be in the dock along with the torturers...in effect..these soldiers were 'just following orders'..even un-spoken orders.
