Tonights show was very informative and angered me greatly; Bush wanted the prescription drug plan to cover everyone (to get votes) and Congress set about to make it happen. One problem: most Democrats and enough Republicans saw the bill for what it was: a handout to pharmaceutical companies and HMO's. They tried to rush through a vote at midnight but it didn't work. The bill was losing. So, they extend the voting timetable to three hours and unleashed the lobbyists and neocon arm-twisters using everything from bribes to threats to "convert" enough representatives to get it done. As with the Patriot Act, the extremely lengthy text of the bill was made available for review approximately one day before the vote to ensure that no one read it. People who knew the truth about how much the bill would actually cost taxpayers were threatened with "severe consequences" if they let anyone know.
I FREAKING HATE REPUBLICANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
