Joe Lieberman just doesn't get it ...

Great article on the kiss-ass Republican lite, Lieberman, who really, just doesn't get it, (this goes for the special interest DLC as well.)

U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman continues to complain that the party is too liberal. In a speech Monday to the National Press Club, where he tried to renew his crumbling candidacy, Lieberman warned Democrats not to vote their principles.

"I share the anger of my fellow Democrats with George Bush and the direction he has taken this nation. But the answer to his outdated, extremist ideology is not to be found in the outdated extremes of our own," Lieberman told reporters. "That path will not solve the challenges of our time and could send us back to the political wilderness for years to come."

Lieberman could not be more wrong. Democrats were consigned to the political wilderness in 2002 not because they were too liberal but because too many party leaders chose to follow Lieberman into the Bush administration's orbit on issues such as war and peace, the USA Patriot Act and corporate welfare bailouts for the airline industry. While Republican turnout rose in 2002, Democratic turnout slackened. A quick analysis of the results led most Democrats - from presidential prospects to grass-roots activists - to recognize that any further fuzzing of the margins between the parties in 2004 would be disastrous. So it comes as no surprise that the greatest applause line on the campaign trail has been former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean's pledge to represent "the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party."

If that is true, then there are all sorts of gains to me made by changing policy positions.

Less than 50% of the eligible voters bothered to go to the polls in 2000.

The race was between a rabid right winger running as a moderate and a monderate running as slightly right of center. If you listened to their promises and television spots, you'd find little difference between the two.

The right has never had a problem getting the votes out. There's nothing like the threat of hellfire and damnation to get believers to vote.

That begs the question of who those 51% of the electorate were.

Certainly, some of them are simply apolitical, more concerned with their own passions and willing to let the world run itself. However, this doesn't explain that the MAJORITY didn't see any reason to get up an hour early or get home an hour late to vote.

The only conclusion it's possible to reach is that these are the people that neither the far right nor the moderate right can inspire.

He is more or less a republican who has a "d" next to his name for the record. Why wouldn't he get attacked left and right? All sort of republicans/conservatives get attacked. Why not him too?

Lieberman will allow the party to just keep going the same non progressive route, as long as he keeps his moderate keep things as they are job. Man, does Rove love Lieberman...Rove will tell you, Lieberman is a real Democrat and is he fearful of the huckster. Keep the lies coming Karl, there's many, like posts above me who believe your shit.
