Progressive websites should try to organize a boycott of Fox
Fox is the most partisan of all major media outlets. Their coverage of the election, the war, and the economy is not simply slanted, it is blatantly unfair and dishonest. Yet, Fox is a very popular media outlet. I think there should be an attempt to boycott Fox and its advertisers until Fox adapts a code of journalistic ethics to ensure more balanced coverage of difficult issues. Right now, they are an arm of the Republican Party, and that's a real problem for democracy.

2. How Do You Boycott?
I see that word frequently here...just curious what it means.

Is this not watching? Telling others not to watch? Contacting and protesting the network? It's sponsors?

Personally, I hope Faux marginalizes itself into oblivion as this nation wakes up to the lies and distortions that led to its inception and current popularity. It won't go away, but it'd be nice to see it put in its proper place...on the fringes of the body politic, not the agenda setter.

It'd be wonderful to create some mass show of support for our causes and against those who we feel harm the best interests of this nation...like Faux, but how do you get the message to them?

I'd be interested in responses to this.

4. A couple thoughts
The key to a boycott is to let sponsors know you're not buying their products because they advertise on Fox. That would mean the more you watch Fox, the more you become aware of who not to buy from.

The problem with a boycott is that it's hard to organize one that can have a real impact. The other danger is that that the other side can respond with a boycott of their own. I don't think that would be too much of a problem, because I doubt if they could choose a common target. The other major media outlets seem to be fairly similar in terms of their journalistic ethics and politics.

5. Very Good Insight
Impact is the keyword. A silent boycott, such as "not watching" means little as few of us are monitored for ratings that are used by Faux to generate the money that feeds that beast, partially.

I've suggested on many, many occasions...and to many, many webmasters...for someone to set up a page/site that lists the sponsors of Right Wing media. It can be broken down to national, regional & local...a place where people can learn about the corporations...and avoid spending their money at those businesses.

In many ways, we've been the victims of an information boycott that Faux symbolizes. Our point of view is either not presented or distorted...and in the cases of Faux, used as a weapon of hate and dis-information. And, notice how the Right Wing used to try corporate boycotts (anyone remember Donald Wildmon?) to little effect.

They used the concept of to beat the monster they had to BE the monster...and they are.

Cheers.

3. i have a suspicion
that half of their measley <1/2 mil. viewers are really self-flagellating progressives. for some reason i've never really come across so many people who watch fox (outside of a freepers site) than DU. it's a really odd thing. sadomasochism, perhaps? many liberals like to work themselves up into a righteous frenzy to relax? i don't get it. i just skip the nonsense myself.

who here is guilty of watching fox needlessly? do you do it out of spite against them? the joys of high blood pressure? maybe don't watch it for the month of May and see what happens?

6. Watching Faux is like watching
a car wreck....many can't help but slow down and look...at least to see what happened...
....they have taken INFO-TAINMENT to a new level....
Murdoch and Ailes realize that Americans love to be ENTERTAINED more than anything else....e.g. All of the graphics, quick pictures, sound bites, and of course, the YELLING "pundits"....
The big problem is that other media outlets have tried to somewhat emulate them....instead of marginalizing their type of "journalism"....sigh.
Therefore, Americans are no longer satisfied with straight reporting of news, facts, press conferences. They must be TOLD what was said, what it meant, etc. by those people who share their own political views. Faux gets it. Americans are lazy and don't want to think for themselves and take the time to analyze anything.

8. With the Cheney endorsement of Fox "News", I think their ratings will rise
because all of the right wingers will start looking into this network that is fair and balanced.
