Beware of the Diversion Arnold is Creating-----Bad for Us
Rove has to be ecstatic--he has from now until Oct. 7th to go on vacation and not have to create smoke-and-mirror situations as usual to detract the people from Bush's lies, the rotten economy, etc. Arnold is providing that "political" diversion for the populace until Oct. 7th; and if he wins, he's good for another couple weeks of diversion. But there is something even more deadly to the Democrats because of this.

The Dem presidential candidates and their message is, and will be, also buried on the back page of political news because of the Arnold/California circus. Folks, it has already upstaged and buried any points Al was trying to make in his speech (bad, bad timing unfortunately--Rove has to be jumping for joy because it's another bullet dodged by Bush). September is the month were presidential candidates really put the pedal to the floor if they have any hopes of winning in early '04. It's prime political kick-off season....and no one will know except us political junkies with this circus going on. This is as good as Laci Peterson and the DC snipers all rolled into one..and throw Chandra in to boot. This is not good.

1. so we email our friends and family
with the best threads of the day from DU.

We table for the candidates we like every weekend at farmers markets and high school football games.

We write letters to the editor about the continuing death of american soldiers and the economic disaster we are facing.

WE have the power - to act or not to act.

9. You are talking about grassroots activism
I think that that subject is not discussed enough here. I will make time to do this, but I have scant experience.

We need some sort of "Grassroots Activism Training" thread in Activism, or perhaps some links off the links page. Just musing, but dead serious.

We shall overcome.

3. Don't you ever wonder WHY the public is so easily distracted?
God, is the American public becoming so dumbed and numbed that they are beyond waking up and thinking for themselves?

I'm really starting to wonder.

Election Theft 2000 was fool me once.
2002 was fool me twice.
Iraq war, no Osama, no Anthrax killer.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN THE PUBLIC BE FOOLED? I guess a lot more than we thought.

5. revree---boy, do I understand what you are saying and
it hit me again with the Arnold thing. These assinine idiots screaming for him and "talkin' 'bout how da' Terminator goona' go to da' capitol and clean house"--------what MORONS!! Do they think he walks in, clad in leather and shoots down the 38 billion deficit??? It's more than that-- they are politically uninformed----they are just dirt stupid and there's no nice way of saying it other than that. It's all one big movie. Maybe they can survive on a box of popcorn and a Slurpy to go with that. Unbelievable.

11. Only an above average member of the public
would complain about the average public. It has the curve of a division bell.

6. Oh yeah
CNN just had a puke-inducing little piece comparing him side-by-side with Reagan. That's what we have to look forward to for a while. They got a two-for-one out of this...an puppet for California and a huge media diversion.

8. ibe-----other than the comparison of stupid, sock puppet, what in
hell could they have stretched to that extent?? They both were losers--brain damaged, hapless losers who were the pathetic front men for the real organized crime running this country...........and it's only going to get worse.......

7. Well it's the complicit media that's doing it in reality...
but isn't it ironic that your very post warning of this distraction, also distracts from the relevant issues? I have also posted similar warnings about other unimportant issues like Kobe Bryant, and find that it becomes yet another thread on the subject.

It's frustrating.

10. I never understand these threads
These pop up about once a week. Blankety-blank is a disraction from blankety-blank.

I can concentrate on more than one issue at a time. And I am interested in the Arnold circus as well as the Kobe Bryant case (as a gambler, it matters big time to me). Yet, I can still think about the election (which is 14 months away) and Iraq.

In fact, I am already starting to get burned out on the primary. Part of me is saying that nothing that happens now is going to determine the outcome anyway. Hell, part of me is convinced that the nominee hasn't even entered the race yet (Gore, Hillary, or Clark).

If the concern is that the American people can only focus on one thing at a time, well, then we're screwed as a people anyway. I have a little more faith than that.

Man cannot live by 24 hours a day of Bush-bashing alone.

14. On the contrary, Bush cannot regain the initiative...
That would be bad for Bush. Populism and anger are not things Bush wants next year. If things are too domestically-focused, then Bush is in trouble.

16. seems the Arnold distraction has spread to DU as well
Edited on Fri Aug-08-03 04:48 PM by leftchick
how disappointing to flip through all channels today and see wall to wall arnold then come to DU for some real discussion of issues and BAM... there had to be at least seven threads in GD all about Arnold. If you include all of the CA recall info it adds up to many more. I can't help but be dismayed when DU falls into the rove groove too. :(

on edit: to say this thread excluded of course! :)
