Researchers: John Evans, Wisconsin - Republican or Democrat?

Hi all, this is a request for some research help. I'm trying to find out if Wisconsin's Director of Transportation, John Evans, is a Republican or a Democrat. So far all I've discovered is that he was appointed by Tommy Thompson, but he appears to have been retained by the current Democratic governor. I'm hoping he's a Republican.

If anyone has any information regarding John Evans' political affiliation, I'd appreciate it.

I did some research and found out that he's a Bureau Chief. He may have been appointed by Thompson but I suspect he has Civil Service Status. There's not much more to go on.

I know a little about this because I was up for the position of Bureau of Land Acquisition a few years back. It was strictly Civil Service at that level.

Traffic safety chief arrested on drunken driving charge

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The man who oversees Wisconsin's traffic safety and backed a new, lower legal blood alcohol level was arrested for drunken driving.

John Evans was removed as Bureau of Transportation Safety director Wednesday, the Wisconsin State Journal reported in Thursday's editions, and will be reassigned to "different duties," said Ken Leonard, a Department of Transportation deputy administrator.

Evans, 52, was arrested last Friday, and a breath test showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.14%. The legal level of intoxication is 0.10 but drops to 0.08 on Sept. 30.
