...read headlines and think they've read the article. Misleading or even outright lying headlines have become their stock in trade. It's much easier than editing all the facts out of a story, after all, they'd have nothing left to print.
Remember all those "Bush wins recount" headlines after the consortium of newspapers did their recount of Florida? You had to read two thirds of the way through the article to find out that Gore won seven of nine scenarios.
