Consider this Exit Poll breakdown from Selection 2000:
Get Political News on Internet? ......All Gore Bush Nader Yes 30% 47% 48% 3% No 70% 49% 47% 3%
Gore and Bush essentially split the Internet vote.
I make the following assumptions: 1)The Internet political news voters will surely increase from 30% of total voters in 2000. 2)Kerry's percentage of the I-vote will be greater than Gore's 47%, since the anti-Bush sites have a bigger presence on the Web now. DU did not appear until 2001. 3)Say 40% get their news from the Web in Nov. 4)Assume that Kerry gets at least 52% of the Web news vote (up from 47%). 5)Assume Kerry gets 50% of the non-Web news vote (up from 49%).
These assumptions translate to the following: 21% of Kerry's total vote will be from the Net:.52*.40 = 20.8 30% of his total vote will be from non-Web news sources:.50*.60= 30.0
Therefore, Kerry will get 30+21 = 51% of the total vote, Bush 46%, Nader 3%, assuming he gets 3%.
I don't think Nader will get more than 1%. Then this means at least 52% for Kerry, 47% Bush, 1% Nader.
