Anyone remember the Star Trek show with the Nazi leader?
Gosh, it must have been 30 years ago since I last saw that. The guy in charge of the planet was a Nazi puppet. The REAL bad guys who were
actually running the country kept him in a drug induced stupor. Sometimes I think of that when the chimp makes a speech.

1. Yup!

Star Trek Epsiode 52, Season 2:
Patterns of Force

When the Enterprise approaches the inner planet Ekos to investigate the cessation of communication with researcher John Gill, it is attacked with a rocket carrying a nuclear weapon. This is puzzling as well as dangerous, since neither the outer planet Zeon nor the inner planet Ekos is technologically advanced enough to possess rockets or nuclear warheads. The Enterprise retreats to maximum orbital distance and Kirk and Spock beam down (after having position-broadcasting transponders surgically implanted in case of mishaps).

Kirk and Spock discover that a Nazi movement has swept the planet, complete with genocide of the "Zeon pigs" residing on Ekos. They view a public newscast in which the Iron Cross second class is presented to Daras, hero of the Fatherland. Kirk and Spock are also shocked to learn that Gill appears to be the leader of the planet's Nazi movement.

When they are approached and questioned by a Nazi Lieutenant, they overpower him and Spock steals his uniform. Spock then pretends that Kirk is a Zeon he has captured and nerve pinches a Gestapo commander who wishes to take charge of Kirk. This provides Kirk's uniform, and Spock compliments Kirk by telling him "You should make a very convincing Nazi."

5. So strange. As I was sweating in the sun...
...banging away on the hot rod and running through my top 20 curse strings, I thought of this very episode.

3. Yep, "Patterns of Force"!
As I recall, he was a former Starship Captain who had "gone native" and chose the Nazi approach for his adopted planet because initially the Nazis had managed to make the trains run on time and stuff like that. He thought he could keep only the GOOD aspects of Nazism and avoid the lamentable excesses of the Germans. Of course everything went to scheiss on him. But he did have a definite sense of wanting to do good, albeit grossly misguided, which I think is completely alien to your average run-of-the-mill drug-addled fascist flyboy.

6. And BTW...
Even though the series was huge all over Europe, that particular episode has never been shown on television in Germany.

It took until 1996, but it was shown on German TV. :hi:

Welcome to the DU :toast:

I hope they'll re-release the whole series, as the old German version is heavily edited - the German videos are not nearly as good as the US ones (with the exception of "patterns of force", that episode is identical).

8. I was just thinking of this tonight!
Edited on Sat May-01-04 11:40 PM by Minstrel Boy

SPOCK: Captain, the speech follows no logical pattern.
Random sentences strung together.

MCCOY: He looks drugged,Jim,
almost in a cataleptic state.

GILL: ...reach our goal,
And we will reach that goal.
(cheering)
Every thought ...
directed toward a goal.
This planet ...
can become a paradise...
