How does Comedy Central get away with
Edited on Sun May-02-04 01:47 AM by kgfnally
airing "South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut" in unedited, unbleeped form, while Howard Stern gets knocked off radio?

Can someone explain this to me? The South Park movie has everything in it that the FCC deems 'inappropriate': almost every dirty work in the book, plus not one but two photoreal dildos (that scene was funny though, as was ALL of Cartman's song and the part about the word 'fuck' near the beginning)!

I mean, really. There's some serious hypocrisy going on here.

edit: I realize it's cable. That really shouldn't matter, especially when both products- Stern and Comedy Central- are available in the same area.

9. Yes, and it is censored at those different hours
They showed the whole SP movie, uncensored, last night.

3. Ashcroft and little Powell will get around to "cleaning up" cable.....
If chimpy manages to steal the election and gets a second term we will have very few freedoms left, if any.

4. It's because cable is not considered "public airwaves"
It's not regulated in the same way.

6. But by the same token
the internet is in no way "public"- private companies almost always provide nonuniversity access- and yet private individuals have been asked or (in Bev Harris' case, told) to remove certain things from their website. So apparently, Federal power to regulate content reaches into both the public and prive space.

That is Not Good.

And this is the third time they have aired it thus, to my knowledge.
