Your response to the POW abuses?

Personally, the situation puts me in mind of what nazis did to prisoners and civilians in WW2. I think that every general who knew anything about this or ordered it should be fired and put in prison for 30 years, as should every sick fucking soldier who felt that they needed to obey an order to rape a prisoner with a broomstick in order to defend their country.


It makes me sick! It makes me fucking ASHAMED to be an american.

but America is gripped in madness I'm sad to say.

and I don't believe it's an isolated case. Ya gotta know that for every group of torturers who are dumb enough to allow pictures, there are bunches more who are not. The only question is how many.

I was watching the film Casualties of War yesterday (great movie if you haven't seen it yet)... and I was reminded of Michael J. Fox's character protesting the abuse:

"Everybody's acting like we can do anything here and it don't matter what we do. Maybe we gotta' be extra careful... because maybe what we do matters.. maybe it matters more than we even know."

We need to make this right

We need to write our lawmakers and DEMAND the Red Cross be allowed access to the detainees. This shit has got to end NOW

can we all ban together and make a formal request to them directly with thousands of signatures?

We need the Red Cross in there now. To regain any credibility in the world we need full disclosure now. The Red Cross will have more to add to the controversy

Both agencies--as well as Amnesty International--have got to be all over this situation, and NOW.

Look at pornography...all about debasement and dominace, yet so many willingly participate. I think folks who get into this stuff lose track of their moral compasss...you become numb to the images. It becomes more normal.

Combine that with the "might for right" mentality and you have a very dangerous situation.

I wonder if the Iraqi torture will bring increased scrutiny to the US prison system?

There's been no period of human history more analyzed then the US war in Vietnam. Yet, with ALL the studies, and movies, and books we still managed to find a way not learn from the past and do the same damn stupid and evil things all over again.

rhetoric and blatant lies, masked under the veil of "religious" belief have given license to this kind of thing IMO. That his minions continue to defend those responsible and even to excoriate those who are horrified by these atrocities speaks volumes. This "religious" justification for everything Bush does is malignant and those that buy into it are no better than those who murdered in the name of "Christianity" during the crusades, during the witch trials, during the near extermination of our own American Indians. I say this as one who considers themselves to be Christian, but see no evidence of Christianity in the RW fundie view. I see only the bastardization of a philosophy and religion for their own selfish malevolent purposes.

While I hate to draw contrast too far off topic, bear with me, as I do believe the principle of blame and its consequence applies in many recent US tragedies. I'm reminded that a near decade of Republican excoriation of "big" Government for all that is "wrong in the US was very successful in advancing their political agendas. Many average Americans got the impression that government workers were all "feeding at the trough do-nothings," had no regard for the jobs that they held, and were simply out to harrass or steal from taxpayers. This resulted in many who ignored that those who work for the government are average Americans like themselves and left the Tim McVeighs and Terry Nichols of the world to think nothing of destroying them (and any "collateral" innocents) during the bombing of OKC.

This exploitation of "religion," bigotry, or crass misrepresentation to achieve personal objectives and manipulation of hate for political agendas has consequences. This is what I think we have seen, are seeing now in Iraq, (and will likely continue to see). Hatred fosters more hatred. The vile acts are the outlet of that hatred.

But this is all part of war. always has been, always will be. I saw plenty of POW's abused in Vietnam. For most Marines it was just another day @ the office....... For those that can't stomach the reality of war, all I can say is: thank the ignorant chicken hawks that were allowed to talk our country of sheeple into this quagmire..... Please, Send Kerry $$$$$$

I know about the pics of Iraqi men having electrodes hooked up to them, and others of men with bags over their heads being put into sexually explicit positions, with that "woman" (in name only, so let's call her a WINO) imitating a gun with her hand and pointing it at the prisoners' "good bits"...

But raping them with BROOMSTICKS? x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x( x(

This is not defending our country. This is sheer masochistic brutality, committed by barbarian-like savages of the worst degree.

I say the "soldiers" or whoever else who did this depravity should get them up theirs in return. After all, if they're Christians, they ought to live by the Bible, yes? "Do unto others as you want them to do to you." Obviously, our soldiers love shoving broomsticks up other peoples' butts. So let 'em have it. Civility works only for the civilized, and nobody in this "war" is civilized. We're a world of savage haters.

The buck doesn't stop anywhere, everything is someone else's fault.

these people are Iraqi citizens who've been rounded up, off the streets, for interrogation.

And the interrogation is NOT for intelligence but for terrorizing the Iraqis.

Please, let's be clear about this. Or maybe I'm incorrect and Prisoner of War does apply to innocent civilians who're detained by an occupying force.

They are pulling people for whatever reason off the streets, torturing them, getting names from the victims who are only trying to get the pain to stop... and then rounding up the innocent people the tortured prisoners have "named".
