22. Here's ANOTHER Link...
Edited on Tue May-04-04 04:32 PM by BiggJawn
http://www.tarpley.net/bush3.htm

And some quotes:

``The must put the most modern medical means in the service of this knowledge.... Those who are physically and mentally unhealthy and unworthy must not perpetuate their suffering in the body of their children.... The prevention of the faculty and opportunity to procreate on the part of the physically degenerate and mentally sick, over a period of only 600 years, would ... free humanity from an immeasurable misfortune.''

``The per capita income gap between the developed and the developing countries is increasing, in large part the result of higher birth rates in the poorer countries.... Famine in India, unwanted babies in the United States, poverty that seemed to form an unbreakable chain for millions of people--how should we tackle these problems?.... It is quite clear that one of the major challenges of the 1970s ... will be to curb the world's fertility.''

Who said that? Two people, George Herbert Walker Bush, and Adolph Hitler. (oh, GAWD, BiggJawn said "The Aitch Word"!)

I kept telling my GF while this was playing "Prescott Bush gave money to the Eugenics people. He thought that was a nifty idea, breed undesirable traits out of people like you would race horses..."

Asshole!

Poppy did get one thing screwed up, though. The Per Capita "gap" between the US and the rest of the world is closing, thanks to his boy and his buddies policy of exporting jobs.

4. Tommy Thompson is a good friend of eugenicist Charles Murray.
In fact, the Wisconsin Works/W2 end of welfare program (which has been adopted as the model for federal reform) included a lot of the ideas of Charles Murray, co-author of "The Bell Curve", Tommy's good pal.

8. Don't forget *Buck v. Bell* decided by the Supremes in the 1920's where
Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes declared that "Four generations of imbeciles is enough!" in order to justify state-sponsored sterilized of morons, feeble-minded, etc.

This case concerned Carrie Buck. She came from a family known in the community as poor white trash. No criminal history, just poor and uneducated. Her mother wasn't married when she was born and she too was unmarried when her daughter was born. Amherst County had a hearing to determine whether or not Carrie Buck should be sterilized by the state of Virginia. These sterilizations took place at the Lynchburg Training School (yes, that Lynchburg -- Jerry F's hangout) where other similar children and adults were placed and sterilized. Her last hope was the Supreme Court, after looking at the record and could only find that Buck was poor, uneducated, and an unwed mother and therefore that made her enfeebled (read, social pariah). And the Court let her down. BTW this law is still on the books; it hasn't been overturned.

Read more by a search of Carrie Buck. This is frightening, especially as it preceded the Third Reich by two decades in this country.

9. It's amazing how respectable eugenics used to be
Marie Stopes, the founder of the birth control movement in the UK, was an ardent eugenicist, and regarded birth control as an excellent way to stop the 'inferior' breeding.

She took this to the extent of opposing her son marrying a woman who wore glasses, cutting him out of her will. In a marvellous bit of irony, for anyone who thinks intelligence might be inherited in any way, the woman was a daughter of Barnes Wallis, probably the best engineer in World War Two Britain.

11. This may or may not be related...
...but I can't be the only one who has noticed the dramatic increase in height of kids of the last 30 years or so.

I mean, I'm 26 and my circle of friends growing up were all significantly taller than their fathers (including me). I'm four inches taller than my father, and by far the tallest person on either side of my family.

Maybe I'm just nuts...but I'm not sure it's just a coincidence.

12. Actually, that reltes to nutrition
Average height has been increasing in the US as nutrition improves. From what I hear, it's even more dramatic in Japan.

Because I drank a lot of milk and ate a lot of beef as a kid growing up. The most recent trends do not correspond with historical averages.

25. Check this out
"Those least fit to carry on the race are increasing most rapidly ... Funds that should be used to raise the standard of our civilization are diverted to maintenance of those who should never have been born." (from The Pivot of Civilization quoted in Margaret Sanger. by Elsah Droghin.)

or

"To give certain dysgenic groups in our population their choice of segregation or sterilization", advocated the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger in April 1932 ("A Plan For Peace", Birth Control Review;

18. Here's another very interesting book on the subject.
White Trash: The Eugenic Family Studies, 1877-1919

Very expensive to buy, but most university libraries will have a copy if anyone here wants to take a look.
