"Westerner's" body dragged through streets -- only in Saudi Arabia
Yanbu, Saudi Arabia to be exact.

While looking at al Jazeera to check on the breaking condition of the Abu Ghraib story, I saw this article which notes the dragging through the streets of at least one body.

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/8FE1DD40-DAF9-4976-9883-1E8F6FF77DD4.htm

Fairly impolitic to look upon the Saudis as bad guys, since Bush & his clan so very close to them -- profit$ close.

So... what are the odds THAT one tiny bit will be ignored in the U.S. press?
LOL NOT a rhetorical question... I really wonder.
I give it 85 to 15 in favor of it being omitted, but that's just me.

1. US Media only print/air stuff against Chimp only if it's forced
down their throat. They will proclaim Saudi as a free and open arab democracy, a good ally for Bush. Media Whores.

7. Saudi Arabia a brutal Dictatorship
Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is ruled by the corrupt and fundamentalist House of Saud, controlled by Crown Prince Abdullah. Moderate and reformist voices do exist among the Saudi Princes, but those voices have little power because Crown Prince Abdullah is protected by US troops stationed within Saudi Arabia and by weapons provided to his own army by the US. This allows the House of Saud to rule with an iron fist. Popular reformist movements are brutally crushed and the Saudi people live in subjugation.

So the Saudis hate the US because they prop up a brutal dictatorship and block reform. Interestingly, it was here that Osama bin Laden learned to hate the US.

* I cringe everytime I see Prince Bandar on TV acting like he's such a nice guy.

2. no chance....
it would have been included already, when the story was 'hot', if it was to be included at all.

Yeah, the Muslim world is starting to hate Westerners ourselves and not just our governments and corporations.

4. AP reported the same thing yesterday
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2004-05-02-yanbu-attacks_x.htm

YANBU, Saudi Arabia (AP) — American and European families packed their bags Sunday after a deadly attack on foreigners, and traumatized Saudi schoolchildren recounted how the attackers proudly summoned them to watch them drag a victim's body through the streets.

(snip)

After spraying the office of Houston-based oil contractor ABB Lummus Global Inc. with gunfire, the four bearded men tied the body of one of their victims to the bumper of a car and headed for the Ibn Hayyan Secondary Boys School.

Students said Sunday that the attackers drove into their parking lot and fired into the air to attract attention to the bloodied corpse attached to their car by its right leg. "This is the president of America!" the men screamed.

10. Not just the Muslim World hating the US.
Throughout the ENTIRE WORLD, US citizens are being given the cold shoulder.

Traveled to Canada lately?... Mexico? .....Europe?

Of course, most still gladly accept dollars, and when engaged in conversation they will say things like, "We don't hate ALL Americans. We hate bush*. He is making the World a dangerous place. You guys really have to do something about that psycho."

It will take decades to undo most of the damage. Unfortunately, nothing we do will bring back the innocent human beings bush* has killed in our name. Nothing will be able to repair the families bush* and his team of bloodthirsty psychos has blown apart.

We OWE ammends to the entire planet.

8. OK but can't get the page up now
Al Jazeera article page isn't popping up, says "Server Too Busy"
I don't know when it'll come back (surely this White House regime doesn't have that kind of shut-down power over THEM, do they?!)

This was buried in it anyhow... so take it down if you wish
I mean if those are the rules, np

Sorry!

"Foreign staff to leave Saudi city of Yanbu"

I'm not a mod, so I'm not going to take it down. Just didn't want it to get removed. :)

5. Maybe they'll surround the city with barbed wire and only allow...
women and children to leave. Then they'll post snipers and shoot anyone who moves and then they'll bomb the shit out of the place...

Or maybe they'll not say a word and pretend it didn't happen.

13. Jasper, TEXAS
is town made famous by the dragging of an American through the streets although I have been assured that that particular American was alive at the start of his trip.

The incident in Saudi Arabia reflects well on some of the US customs and sensibilities that Prince Bandar may have picked up from his hosts in Crawford, TEXAS.

Or perhaps the locals got that bright idea from the dozens of South African mercenaries employed by the cowboy and his codpiece.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/900978.stm

Or maybe the Saudis simply acquired that notion from watching CNN for news on TEXAS.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Southwest/04/09/dragged.death.ap/

Or maybe this case more closely resembles that of UTAH.

I wonder how long it is going to take before the Saudis start improvising on magnolia trees
and begin suspending strange, imported fruit from them......

14. It's only a crime worth covering on the news
when you happen to get good hi-res video to broadcast around the world. Of course, the Saudis would never let a thing like that get out.

15. Five and a half to one sounds about right with the other point
for vigorish. I would definitely take the price, even though I knew I was booking a loser.
