US panel studying Cuban regime change
Edited on Mon May-03-04 04:46 AM by doni_georgia
Last night, my husband saw a story on Yahoo about a panel doing a study on regime change in Cuba. Story misteriously disappeared a few minutes later. Yahoo story is still nowhere to be found, but here is one from Mississippi paper:
http://www.picayuneitem.com/articles/2004/05/02/ap/Headlines/d82appjo0.txt

This morning Yahoo has a story about Mexico and Peru withdrawing their ambassadors from Cuba:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=574&ncid=721&e=1&u=/nm/20040503/wl_nm/mexico_cuba_dc

Then there's this interesting piece from Salon a couple of days ago:
"April 30, 2004 | WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Treasury Department agency entrusted with blocking the financial resources of terrorists has assigned five times as many agents to investigate Cuban embargo violations as it has to track Osama bin Laden's and Saddam Hussein's money, documents show."

Keep an eye on this folks!

In other "theater" news: US to step up sanctions on Syria
http://www9.sbs.com.au/theworldnews/region.php?id=84158®ion=4

"The White House has warned it may slap sanctions on Syria "very soon" under a new law to punish the country for its alleged support of terrorism and seeking unconventional weapons. "

1. Giving this a kick before I go to work.
Just keep thinking of Dubya's words at the "press conference" "Iraq is just one theater of this war." And later some repug congressman saying this war on terror could last 25 years.

4. 1812?

Maybe it's because it's early, but I'm not following you here.

5. War of 1812 and the invasion of Canada

A history lesson that most Canadian cling to when the 'maricans start rattling their sabres at Canada or its allies.

Canada maintains a mutually respectful relationship with Cuba.
