Does someone actually pay for people to write this?
I saw this column from the Weekly Standard which was written by Robert D. Alt called the "Al Jazeera Effect" at

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/04/21/opinion/main612983.shtml.

Remember that "Robert D. Alt is a Fellow in Legal and International Affairs at The John M. Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs at Ashland University."

In it Alt makes one proposition...

"A gunman would go to the mosque, where Al Jazeera, as luck would have it, would be setting up. The man would open fire in order to draw fire from the Coalition. After he was inevitably taken down by the Coalition, a bystander would rush over to check his condition, and in the melee secret away the firearm. Al Jazeera then would swoop in for the story: Coalition guns down unarmed man in front of mosque! And as in Falluja, they would have the pictures to prove it."

An Iraqi is willing to sacrifice his life just to frame the US Coalition forces?

Wow, what a great depth of anti-American feeling there must be for someone to do that!!??

Are the bulk of Americans so stupid to believe anyone who can write this garbage?

Which University in this world other than in the US would employ someone so ignorant as this writer?

1. I don't know, I could see them doing it
fanatics are, well, fanatical, on both sides of the fence. It's perhaps unlikely a scenario, but plausible.

i don't see why you are so shocked by the guy suggesting it, though I don't doubt that are you correct that the writer is probably a few bricks short of a load and likely a conservative Shrub worshipper.

2. No fanatic would do such a stupid act
If anything a fanatic would work to get rid of of a few of his enemies - not to die for the benefit of Television Crew!!!

What shocks me is that a "Fellow" could write such garbage and get away with it!!

3. insane garbage
And illogical. Why would they even need to do something so stupid? The country is strewn with corpses of Iraqi citizens. If they "swoop in" AFTER the shooting that implies they just want photos of dead bodies. If so, all the hospitals have plenty. Why would anyone die for a photo of a dead body when there are thousands lying around?

4. Robert D. Alt is probably a pimple-faced college student
(apologies to college students and acne sufferers)
