Any Nascar Dads here?

I saw a bumper sticker that read "Nascar Dad for Bush". We should have some bumper stickers that read "Nascar Dad for Kerry" or "Nascar Dad Against Bush".

The concept of a "NASCAR Dad" was started by the Bush campaign to give the media the notion of a new target demographic that will be a battleground in the 2004 election.

The fact is, this "in-play" demographic is overwhelmingly pro-Bush.

But the media is falling for this bullshit: hook, line, and torque wrench. As election day approaches, I can already hear Bill Schneider breathlessly announce,

"Look at the numbers we're seeing from NASCAR Dads! Bush leads Kerry by a 6:1 margin... obviously, the President has done a spectacular job of appealing to this crucial constituency."

Yeah. A constituency that was never Kerry's to win in the first place.

I don't even want to hear the words "NASCAR Dad" used in open discussion outside of DU. The more people use the term in everyday discourse, the more likely it is that they'll believe it's analogous to "Soccer Mom."

The next time I see one of those bumper stickers, maybe I can put a slash in the D and replace it with a C.

Nascar fans are as varied and diverse as any other "group" of people (people who watch tv, people who listen to rock music, etc. etc.)
