Analysts predicting a close election in 2004

saw this nugget in the N.Y. Times article someone posted about young blacks not voting Democratic:

"analysts are predicting another close election in which every vote counts."

That's interesting, considering the Dem cnadidates are supposed to be not exactly balls of fire (according to pundits). I wonder if this prediction is based on the fact the country is so divided. This means we have a real chance but it also means the Rove machine will probably ue every dirty trick in the book to win as in 2000.

Makes it harder to steal an election if there's a wide margin between the candidates. "Expect a close election, sheeple - that way if the Democratic candidate tries to steal the election from our Savior, George W. Bush, we can make a pious, self-righteous push for the rightful winner, King of All Mankind, Georgie the Great, to steal it back from the Democratic infidel."
