Part of me would be offended by fake gays avoiding the draft
Edited on Mon May-03-04 08:25 PM by dsc
Yes, I don't blame them and I would do the same thing. But still, on a visceral level, it seems so unfair to me that those of us who got the bad part of being gay now have to share a good thing about being gay with the fake gays. Again, this is somewhat in jest and I fully understand. If need be, I will be getting my nephew to say he is gay to get out. But still, on some level it just ain't fair.

On edit I guess what would really annoy me is if homophobes managed to get out of service this way.

1. I know how you feel.
I feel the same way when I see straight women advocating the use of vibrators.

7. actually I am not sure
part of this is kidding on the square for me. I guess this would be preferable to what I suspect will happen which is gays will be allowed in for the duration of the war.

11. actually I'd like to see the showdown
Advocate deafting gay people against the wishes of military brass then advocate denying gay people equal rights concerning marriage..it's the perfect storm.

14. Well, let's pretend you're a drill sergeant and I'm going to be drafted
I say "I'm gay."

You say "Prove it!"

I say "Take down your pants and I will! :9 "

'nuff said. :D

But I plan on getting out my Drag attire to go with some of the boys to the draft board. None of my boys are going!

6. I suspect that if and when the Draft comes back
these are the policies that are going to go out the window:

Drug testing (Hold it, it already is out, troops were sent to
Afghanistan even when they popped postive)

Don't ask, don't tell will morph into you can tell all you want,
we refuse to listen, enjoy your time in the Army.

Others that will go out.. restraint while trraining boots... physical abuse will come back with a vengeance

Student deferements, oh you are in college, ok, we will delay your entry... you are going to ROTC, welcome to the service Liuteneant.

Sorry to be this brutal but you will not have to worry, they need
bodies, and many common "excuses" will not work

10. I think you've got it...
...being gay, or pretending to be, will not keep you out of the draft this time around. If it gets to the point where a draft is necessary, you are going to see the military embracing equality like never before.

Edited on Mon May-03-04 08:30 PM by bigtree
At least until we get some rationality about how we use our forces.

I'm old and hardened now, but even in my youth I would have told them to f*** off and do the hard time.

12. If Chimp is still in office
..(perish the thought), and he is still hell bent on conquering the entire middle east to prepare the way for the second coming, I would say any way a person gets out of the miltary is the right way.

Don't worry. No phobes will ever do this. They can't. It's too close to what they're fighting within themselves.

16. My plan
If they try to draft women, I've got my plan ala Phil Ochs
The draft board is debating if they’d like to take my life
I’d sooner take a wife and have raise a child or two
Wouldn’t you?

Oh and Hypno, I think I would pay to see the look on that guys face!

17. ALL of me would hate it, and here's why:
isn't it just going to stir up more resentment against the gay community? I mean, it's not like they don't have enough of that headed their way already thanks to the CC.

I'm straight, by the way, so not biased. If somebody wants to avoid the draft, there are other ways to do it.

People will look for anything to justify hate and that would be for some a really good justification.

18. when I was in the military
Edited on Mon May-03-04 09:40 PM by Skittles
I counseled many guys who came into the personnel office saying they were gay and wanting out. Usually they were just frustrated about something and I'd tell them you don't want a general discharge; just stick it out and you'll have that honorable discharge. They usually did listen to me and I think I did right by them. A few years ago I received an email from one of them who remembered my name after over 20 years. He told me he was going through a rough time but he got over it and was so glad I had talked him out of getting that general discharge.

The guys who confided to me they weren't really gay - I put a stop to that immediately. I told them it just wasn't right claiming to be gay and they knew it. They listened to me too.

Tough place for anybody who is against harming innocent people.

My son is gay - I would leave the country first. This is an illegal war, pure and simple.

Youngsters could say they feel like killing themselves, spend a few days in a psych ward, get a diagnosis...would this do it?

27. Sadly DSC... No one will evade it, gay or not
They really don't care about that issue except in peace-time.

I agree with your sentiment but I don't think claiming to be, or being gay will work if they have a draft.

They're one step ahead of people on this one. You'll have to be blind, crazy or lame to get out of it.

I can really picture someone inflicting bodily harm on themselves so they don't have to go (i.e. Break and arm, shoot themselves in the leg, etc.)
