Cell Block 1A.........the torture story goes mainstream, worldwide
janis the damned has been on the talks this evening, looking every inch like a concentration camp cartoon character, talking about the prison she oversaw, dodging, bobbing and weaving, and lying, and pointing and blaming.

all day it's been the main headline subject, a poll asking if torture was acceptable to americans said that 47% thought it was cool. i don't know what gives me a bigger chill down my spine: general janis karpinsky speaking flatly about CELL BLOCK 1A, or the huge numbers of christian americans who can accept both christ into their hearts, and torture into their collective culture.

if janis karpinski, or any of her ilk ever made a wrong turn one night into the twilight zone, surely the gods of irony, and rod serling would see her serving a long, never ending stretch in Cell Block 1A

1. I just saw the CNN poll about torture in interrogation...
and came over here to see if anybody had mentioned it yet. It's down to 44% OK vs 56% not OK. I was expecting maybe 10% OK to 90% OK. I am appalled that there are so many out there accepting torture as a means of "intelligence gathering". You can pretty much be assured that this 44% would be among the first screaming bloody murder should an American citizen be tortured to gather information. Sometimes humankind makes me sick.

3. I personally suspect the poll was freeped
that said, around 30% would not have a problem with torture anywhere in the world, from any population. That other 10% is probably presure, right at the moment.

Also many do not think these things thorugh, what is scary is that
the question is even being asked. There are some questions that should never be asked

4. to even ask the bizarre question is evidence of america's demise
i suspect they'd like to torture liberals too someday.
like adolph did, liberals, intellectuals, homosexuals, the disabled, gypsies, jews, catholics, anyone who isn't also criminally insane

9. you must not watch
netork primtime TV, most dramas have been busy at work conditioning the masses that torture is Ok, just tune into law & order, Threat Matrix, 24,and especially COPS(where Tazering, pepperspray, and 4th ammendment violations seem to occur with alarming regularity), legitimizing torture is a running theme on these shows.

just wait till all these servicemen and women get back from overseas and take law enforment jobs, they're well primed for the job with all the urban enforcement conditioning they're learing over there. You can all but assure yourself it won't be long until some of the more gung ho types are shoving around good americans.

13. shoving around good americans.--IF YOU'RE BLACK YOU KNOW
You also know about getting tazered, getting bit in the crotch by a police dog and getting your skull bashed by some ignorant cracker who just got released from the airborne rangers.

19. My brother thinks torture is cool.

My brother and I were watching one of these shows and a cop went postal on a suspect, who subsequently confessed to a crime.

I said, "That's just sick."

My brother said, "Well, if your loved one had been murdered, who would you rather have as an interrogator...this guy or some pansy?"

"I'd prefer the 'pansy,'" I said. "Then I'd at least be sure the interrogator wasn't getting a false confession."

My brother is a correctional officer. I shudder to think what must go on in the prison where he works.

(Have I mentioned that I have no respect for my brother?)

2. torture doesnt work.
it only creates more martyrs and more resentment, and isnt even the most reliable means of extracting information. Also when carried out by low ranking officers it becomes a game and spreads because they talk about it. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

5. She just implicated Sanchez.
On MSNBC. She said that this cell block was under the control of someone who reported directly to Sanchez. Asked if he bears responsibility, she said yes.

I don't think she's what you are making her out ot be. She bears responsibility, but this wasn't her idea or in her direct care.

7. She is accountable, but there is more to this, sure...
There is a real chain of command problem going on there, thats for sure.

In theory she has ultimate accountablity, but there are some serious questions as to how "someone else" was calling the shots, and why, in that cellblock.

10. She said she was not "In Charge" of that cell block
She has stated publicly several times i have seen that the cell block where the torture took place was under the direction of the CIA and MI.

WHEN IS THE MEDIA GOING TO WAKE UP AND ASK THE QUESTION

They printed this fact all week end but we have not heard on person mentioned from the actual group that was in control of that cell block.

Of course she was in command of the troops, but she was not in command of the cell block. This whole thing stinks of cover up

15. Ever heard or seen on Cops
They say he is my prisoner until I sign him over to you.

It is very significant who had authority for that prisoner because ULTIMATELY if any thing goes wrong then they are the one to answer for it.

I am sure some has their name on the documents

That is IF the Bush administration will make them available

16. it seems real odd that BOTH rummy and wolfie spent so much time

at the prison....considering how very few and very short visits that either one has made to actually visit Iraq...and attend to so many other pressing problems in a BIG country....

gosh, on one occasion, wolfie barely got to his hotel before he was missile-attacked and almost KILLED from donkey-rocket attacks...and wolfie rushed back to America ASAP....

so little time, yet so many visits to the torture chambers...doesn't anyone else find that suspicious? BOTH wolfowitz AND rumsfeld actually spent their valuable time IN THE PRISON....were they supervising interrogation work?

14. The CNN Poll
I think that some of you have misread the CNN question. The question is, "Is torture ever justified in interrogation?" Consequently, based on the wording of the question, if a respondent can think of one instance where it is justified and a million instances where it is not, then he would vote "yes." An example. What if an individual has information regarding the explosion of a nuke in NY City. Obtaining the info, will stop the plot. Justified? An example. What if an individual has information regarding the location of a hostage who is about to be killed. Obtaining the information will stop the killing. Justified?

I don't think that all of the people voting "yes" in this poll are saying that they approve of what happened in Iraq.
