http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2004_05/003829.phpTo carry this analogy a little farther with respect to leaving Iraq. I have consulted for a number of corporations who, when they change CIOs dump their information systems infrastructure and start over again with the pet project or computer system they are used to or perhaps the newest, shiniest IS toy on the market. It doesn't matter that they have spent a fortune on not only the entire infrastructure but custom programming.. the new guy (or team) in charge dumps the existing systems for new one. Saying that it's not unusual for a company even heavily invested in something to completely start over mid-stream if it appears to be more cost-effective in the long run. A smart CEO can cut and run if need be in order to do the best thing for the company.
