This documentary teaches an important lesson. We're familiar through the mass media with a few of the heroes on the US side in the Vietnam war. And many of us know the stories of ordinary, unsung soldiers, whose lives, if not lost, were nonetheless sacrificed in brutal war that gives "us" and "them" a common history. This film tells of the stories of the sacrifiices and courage of a few of the women patriots on what THEY would bave us regard as the "other" side. It's not just some simple-minded paean to some cartoonized fictions, but conscientious look at the promises and failures and challenges of the struggle for independence at a time when market forces threaten to achieve what militarism could not, particularly with respect to the status of women.
