I think Arnold has his eye on the White House. He dreams of a time when the states have become economically independent politically entities, fairly cut loose from the federal government in all but security matters.

Arnold is the icon of a brute, affluent America with a virtual one party system. California is his experiment, just as Texas was Junior's experiment.

Because that is what I think of Arnie. After all he could have served in the VIET NAM war if he wanted to. One of my best pals was a Potugese citzen, so evidently being a U.S. citizen is not a prerequizate. Well I guess talking tough is a lot more fun than fighting a war. Our current President certainly seems to enjoy it, and the men and women "OVER THERE" are the ones who have to back it up. I used to like Arnie, oh well. ...Oscar

I think it's called Pumping Iron or some such; it's half a bio of Arnie to the days of Conan the Barbarian, and half a bodybuilding manual.

In it he discusses his days in the Austrian Army. He was conscripted, as all young Austrian men are supposed to be, assigned as a tanker, and went AWOL to attend a bodybuilding competition. He won the contest, was busted on his way back to base, and spent the next week in the brig with his trophy as a cellmate. After they let him out of jail, the post commander decided that a bodybuilder would be good publicity for his installation's fitness program (or some damn thing like that) and assigned him to do nothing but train for the rest of his time in service.

Anyway, he's got a better service record than most of the Repugs out there.

So, in case Arnold ever decides to run for president, how would his past military service for a foreign state reflect on his chances of becoming the CinC of the US military? Aren't there laws against that?

... now that the Germans have officially decided they're not going to bide their time doing it for us, endlessly waiting for US troops to return to their jobs.
