Dennis Miller just compared the Iraq prison pics to Mapplethorpe photos

Erica Jong was on the "Varsity Panel," clearly offended by the photos, and compared them to the Nazis (who apparently cherished "keepsake" photos of their atrocities)." Miller was squirming in his seat...a few moments earlier, in his "Cut To The Chase" segment, he was making a big joke out of the photos, saying the solution to prevent this from happening in the future was "hobbies and crafts" for the prison guards.

So, after arguing with Jong about the Nazi reference, he said...in reference to the "stacked naked bodies" photo...and this IS a quote...

"You have to admit, if it had a Mapplethorpe signature at the bottom it would have gone for big bucks."

He made some jokes about attaching electrical wires to genitals and got one of the shills on the "Varsity Panel" to bring up the "this is no worse than a fraternity hazing stunt that happens all across America every week," comparing it to frat boys playing naked games of "Twister."

I kid you not.

Anyone who thinks I'm making this up is cordially invited to tune into Miller's show in the next day or so. His attitude seems to be that the whining over these photos is ruining his war (and he did make a point of stressing that he is "behind" the war tonight).

You know they really do look a little alike. (Not the Mapplethorpe flower photos.) But when I saw the pictures, another photographer came to mind, but I can't remember his name. He was featured in American Photographer years ago, and it was the only issue I ever received that came in a plain brown wrapper, no kidding. The photographer had some some interesting work, but he seemed vaguely Satanic.

Mapplethorpes homoerotic photos (including man's fist up another man's butt) were taken of models. Voluntary models (assumingly homosexual models who either enjoyed it or didn't mind it).

These prisoners were imprisoned and held without trial to determine their guilt. These prisoners were stripped against their will and probably their cultural, if not religious beliefs (modesty, etc.). These prisoners were restrained.

Not even close to art, except in the sick minds of people who think looking at pictures of dead Jews piled sky high near a concentration camp in Germany is "admiring art." Historically accurate photo...yes. Art, no.

That's the basic flaw in the comparison between Mapplethorpe and these photos.

Glad you weren't mad at me. I just meant they *visually* resembled some of RM's work, expecially the one with the person standing on a box with the hood. But they really look like this other photog's work... I wish I could think of his name. Maybe I'll get out my old photography magazines and see if I can find it.

Told a joke (ironically enough) about a frat house at the top of the show that got shut down for health code violations, as a build up for a "six foot maggot" joke.

The audience didn't respond.

were extremely disgusting last night. They were joking and laughing about the pictures, referring to them as the "homosexual pictures". I can't even really remember what was said, I had to turn it off after only a couple of minutes.:puke:

I'll admit that before I read Al Franken's "Lies" I'd never heard of Karl Rove...didn't know he existed. Since then I've read pretty much all of the major "Bush Books"...and if you want to have any chance of survival in the world you have to know your opponent.

It's basically Rove and Cheney, with added "minor puppets and players," who are running the country. I watch Miller and Hannity and some of the others because I know they are all pretty much in agreement with how they're going to keep Bush propped up for another four years.

We need to thing of the Bush commercials and the "Ah'm George W. Bush and ah approve of this message" intro.

Last night Miller was talking to one of his guests about Enron and Ken Lay. His comment: "Bush HATES big business. He and Lay were just buddies."

You'd better believe he approves of the Miller stuff, and the Hannity stuff, and all of the rest of the right-wing cable news spew. And despite this morning's headlines that he found the photos of the prisoners "abhorrent" (a new 3-syllable word Karen Hughes probably taught him at breakfast), I'm guessing that he and Evil Dick probably had a private chuckle or two over them while enjoying big, icy tumblers of Chivas on the rocks.

If the truth can be marginalized and those tortured dehumanized, it makes it much more palatable. The German people of the 30's and 40's weren't any more "evil" than we are. Propaganda serves it's place in this type of agenda and Miller is happy to have the paycheck allowing him to do so.

Let's attach electrical wires to Miller's genitals and let's see if he still thinks it's "no big deal."
