1. was just gonna post this!
The media thought control is now so baldly outrageous, so completely obvious, that least, as in the Soviet Union, we may be controlled, but there is no longer any doubt about it...

Samizdat, anyone?

2. Ok I want all of you folks to think this one through
Disney has its parks in Florida, where the RW Funies have
been at it for years, tryig to close them down.

Now Miramax, a Disney Company, has this hot potatoe (and
from Jeb's point of view) critical movie of the Preznit.

So what does Jeb do?

Disney you distribute this... we will remove all these wonderful
tax breaks you enjoy, we will make it very expensive for you to
opeerate. This is called BLACKMAIL.

So what does Disney do? They GO PUBLIC and tell the world,
look we cannot distribute this becsause JEB BUSH has told us, we do
we will loose all these breaks that allow us to operate in
Florida. Did we forget to mention he is the President's brother?
Ooops our bad, we forgot, you critize the President and as a good Mafia family, they send the Fixer after you (in this case Jeb)

Win or loose, (insofar as Disney distributing this through Miramax)
the Blackmail from Jeb Bush on Disney has been exposed, and there
is nothing like bad publicity...

If they had shelved this quietly and made NO noise on the paper
of record that would be another story and I would be selling
my stock faster than you can say SELL.

Try to see this before you all blow a collective gasket

13. They should sell it back to Moore.
But I like your idea. Maybe they can sell it to Stern.

14. Except that Disney complained about the film over a year ago.
Miramax was hoping they'd change their minds, but Eisner and Disney have been against Farenheit 911 from Day One. Also, they had planned to release their latest bomb *The Alamo* around last Xmas because - in the words of Eisner - they wanted to cash in on the patriotic fervor sweeping the country after the Iraq invasion. That had all dissipated by Xmas, so Disney moved the Alamo film into an April slot - hardly a peak season.

Eisner has also been under attack by Disney stockholders - they recently voted something like 78% against him. Eisner bringing up the Florida tax breaks is most likely a PR stunt to let Disney shareholders know that he has their dividends in mind - Moore's film be damned.

My 2¢.

17. Wanna bet the blackmail started a year ago
They wanted to see if they could unload and help Moore by not
having to go public.

I smell this as quite bigger than just Disney is trying to stop
the distribution. The message will be received loud and clear in
the proper places. This, I hate to say it, was also done by German
media companies way back in'33...

But back then many papers refused to print it, they just went
to the paper of record.

The PR Statement is what tells me this is far more sophisticated
than most people realize

24. It could be spun
as jebbie threatening the jobs of thousands in order for the rocks of his family NOT to be turned over revealing the slime underneath. Now that this is out in the open, I would expect a large backlash against the corrupt "governor".

3. I don't know which I find more disturbing
Edited on Wed May-05-04 12:39 AM by Tolania
that
1. it might "endanger" millions of dollars of tax breaks Disney receives from the state of Florida because the film will "anger" the Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush. (quote from Michael Moore)
or
2. that the threat of #1 would keep Disney from distributing the movie.

Edit: I don't know that Disney needs these tax breaks, and I am not saying they should necessarily get them, but that someone can take them away at their pleasure is what I find disturbing

8. What I find disturbing is that people are missing
the very subtle message embeded in the usual
PR announcement, we are a family company, we get
people of all political and religious believes...

And we just got blackmailed. Somehow people stop at the
usual and very standard PR pap that comes with any
of their statements

I for one applaud Disney for EXPOSNG the blackmail... and I
hope Moore will get it... this is very subtle and will not be
missed on the target population, aka the elites who are facing
the same crap from the Bush Family

15. yes it should be HUGE
Remember all of the ruckus about a little movie called The Passion of Christ people didn't want it made or seen and didn't it make like 4 billion dollars ? ( Myself did not go see it.) But if I have to drive to flint and bang on Michaels door to make him let me see his movie I will. ( I live in Ann Arbor 40 minutes from flint.)

and any dealings with Disney would be appropriate.

BLACKMAIL anyone?

Even in George Bush*'s Amerika, blackmail is a *cough* CRIME.

Did Jeb & his staff put the screws on Disney over this film?

"Some people may be afraid of this movie because of what it will show. But there's nothing they can do about it now because it's done, it's awesome, and if I have anything to say about it, you'll see it this summer -- because, after all, it is a free country.

I cannot wait to see the movie. :D

to go fuck himself and if they remove Disney's tax brakes from the theme parks in Florida that Disney should just pass the cost along to it's customers and call it the 'Jeb Bush blackmail tax"

I like it...

21. Sorry, Kids, No Buying This One...The Movie's Coming Out
The bottom line IS the bottom line. Eisner knows money when it rears its mouseears, and he knows that a controversy works good, too (witness Mel Gibson). He knows that Moore's last movie made a lot of money (even moreso cause it doesn't cost anywhere near what a Cameron would want), is coming off a national best seller and is a walking PR unit. This sure sounds like a build-up to me.

If Disney were that dead-set against the movie, Moore would have gone stomping out or found another studio to work with. Remember, it was ABC, also owned by Disney that stood up to Sinclair last week and has been more liberal in its worldview than not.

The closing lines on Moore's letter...if I have anything to say about it, you'll see it this summer -- sure doesn't sound like the words of a man whose film is about to visit a secret vault. He's got many option other than Disney...including television, independent theaters and the internet that can create a "groundswell" to force Disney into national distribution (Eisner finally crawling on his knees to ask Moore's forgiveness).

While I like Michael Moore and his past works...and consider them mustsee for kids of teenage years...I also have seen his showmanship at work many times and this has "staged" written all over it. This gets him on the talk shows, newspapers...starts tongues wagging, so that when it is finally released it's a weekend "killer" making both Mr. Moore and Mr. Eisner a bit richer than they would have without this "controversy". Nope, seems a little too calculated to me.

25. Someone will buy it and distribute it
There's too much money to be made off it, and the controversy will only add to the crowds. It could make a small independent company, if they could buy it off Disney.

I suspect that Disney is hoping to keep it's release until after the election. If Bush loses the election and the movie is released beforehand and seen by a lot of people, Disney could face a conservative backlash. If Bush has already won the election when it is released, it won't have the same impact.

28. More saudi connection - to Disney via Air America
on Morning Sedition a researcher came up with the fact that a saudi prince (forgot the name) owns a substantial share in Dismney (invested in the 70's when they were down). So, we are a wholly owned subsidiary of OBL& pals (BFEE)
