Am I being paranoid?
Edited on Wed May-05-04 06:58 AM by pjeffrey4444
This morning while shaving at 5am cdt the newsreader on NPR (forget his name, it wasn't Kai Risdahl) said something like. "Bush was in Ohio yesterday CRITICIZING John Kerrys plan for ......; John Kerry was in Minnesota ATTACKING President Bush on the war in Iraq." This isn't the exact quote but the use of CRITICIZING and ATTACKING is my point.
Since fucking when is criticizing and attacking synonymous? Is this editorializing or am I getting paranoid?

On edit....I asking this BEFORE I fire off a letter to NPR. :)

1. Didn't Kissinger say,
"Just because I'm paranoid it doesn't mean that they are not all out to get me."

2. My voices tell me that you're not paranoid -
but seriously the use of words and certain words that on the surface are similar cand have vastly different results. Robert Heinlein's "Revolt in 2100" ( a good read BTW) has his characters write glowing pieces on the hated leader that used words that had a "negative index", if my memory serves me correctly (I just couldn't say "right" HaHa).

I've lost my copy of this book and have been wanting to find it again - I think I know why. Heinlein must've been a prophet. This novel has close parallels to what is happening in *co's America. Read it if you can find it.

6. Heinlein was truly prophetic
Man, talk about living the "crazy years."

Also, Pohl and Kornbluth's The Space Merchants seems to hit awfully close to home now.

3. He used the right words in my opinion...
...Bush was being a little sissy boy and critizing Kerry while Kerry was being a man and attacking Bush. Works for me.

4. Yeah, but if I were Kerry I would be offended at the very idea

of a moron like Bush having the audacity to criticize my ideas. Its not like Bush offers any solutions or alternatives, which is usually implied as being essential to accompany criticism. If you criticize without offering solutions, you are just being an asshole.

And, "criticizing" makes it try to sound like Bush is cerebral and analytical, while in reality we know that he is a moron who doesn't even have enough intellectual curiosity to read the fucking newspaper.

5. You're not paranoid
However, as a writer myself, sometimes you just use words because you don't want to use the same word twice. It MIGHT have been an innocent thing.

7. On Faux, CNN, and now NPR
When a Democrat criticizes a repug, it's an "attack".
When it goes the other way it's a "critique" or just a "reasoned discussion".
Words do mean things.
