1. Just curious
why doesn't Kerry rip Bush on gas prices. That should be one of his main points every speech. He should also run a small ad about it

now in office. Actually, all that harangue from the Freepers in the first sign of hysteria. Like a herd, they will follow their leader off the cliff! Just keep your cool.

Instead of a civil war in Iraq, there will probably be another one here first.

11. $2.66 US for gas wouldn't be bad here
If we had universal health care, decent social security, University waivers, progressive government, gay marriage, medical marijuana.

Perspective indeed.

In the Toronto area and our gasoline prices fluctuate that much on one litre.

For example the price start off at $0.85(cdn$)/L on Friday, the gas stations reduce the price to $0.72/L be the following Friday through competition among the various companies and their gas station, then instantly increase their prices by $0.10 to $.015/L. It's almost like clockwork every week and I always try to time my fill-ups to ensure I buy at the lower cost.

I have never seen anything like this (this extreme) outside Canada. Not in the USA not in Europe. It's a totally bizarre practice and it seems like blatant price gouging by the gas companies and the stations.

14. 1st Quarter earnings for all major oil/gas companies near record highs
reported in last nights local paper. Also that prices are expected to climb even higher especially if a refinery has to be shut down for "maintenance". GOP is about to receive another huge campaign contibution from oil interests I'm sure.

15. Situation in SaudiArabia is going to pour gas on this issue!
Not to mention the recovery of petro assets by the Iraqi's.
The relationship between the *'s and Saudia royalty may very well sink may ships of state in the near future.

17. Monday AM, it was $1.79. Monday PM it was $1.96
It's only going to get worse.

Either the media is telling the truth, suggesting prices will eventually go down, when the summer is over (uh-huh)

or

the media is lying. We've passed peak oil. And it's all downhill from here.

This may or may not be a bushit* gambit as well. Artificially inflate prices then drop 'em $40 cents per gallon in late October.

One of many October surprises, perhaps?

18. We need higher prices, NOW!
Higher prices will force efficiency to go WAY up and force people to find substitutes (public transit).

Gas is one of the MOST elastic products, but the effects of price fluctuations in creating substitutes take a long time to ripple through the economy. Sustained, high prices ($3-$4 a gallon for 5 years) through a gas tax (to finance w/e (all the things we currently AREN'T...how about terrorism security, education, close the deficit).

20. Funny how the gas is bought by the suppliers for a certain price
pumped into the reserve tanks, and overnight is worth so much more!

The profit motive is alive and kicking, that is kicking the shit out of everyone these days.

24. Gotta keep those oil profits up!
I just can't figure out why Americans are in such denial. Why aren't there demonstrations in the street. We are behaving more like pre-war Iraq than America. What is going on? Are we all that comfortable that we will simply ignore the gouging of America?
