Stop Panicking About Kerry's Campaign!!!
The election is November 2, 2004, not June 2, 2004. Most Americans do not even focus on the presidential campaign until AFTER the conventions, and they don't start making their choice until AFTER the debates. Kerry has not even chosen his running mate!! When he does, that will get the ball rolling in his favor.

The campaign IS going well. Bush's money advantage is getting swallowed up by his early heavy ad buying which IS NOT moving him positively in the polls! Both candidates are essentially tied, but more importantly, Bush's money advantage is dwindling. Also, Bush's support IS NOT growing. He has his base and little else.

I know everyone here wants Kerry to destroy Bush. We're all hungry to see Bush freefall, but you must understand that most of your fellow Americans do not follow politics nearly as intensely as we do. In particular, the Democrats' base supporters do not start focusing on the election because they're too busy working and taking care of their children. They will be there when the election comes.

This campaign is going well for Kerry.

4. just heard the new kerry ad...
and it was fantastic. i didn't even get to see the visuals, but the audio was amazing-just the right music and tone and words. i am really excited about it.

the irony was that i heard it while listening to right-wing radio, and they were trying to cut it down. but it brought tears to my eyes. if this is a taste of what's coming, we are in good shape.

6. Salon article which says the same thing
Premature panic
The doom-and-gloom brigade is savaging Kerry because the race is still tied after Bush's horrible April. But the campaign has barely begun.

With just months to go in an election that ought to be a referendum on President Bush, the New York Times runs a front-page story: The Democrats are in serious trouble. Although Bush's approval ratings are low, the presumptive Democratic nominee can't get any traction. His campaign "continues to confront a cloud of doubts and reservations," the Times says, and voters are complaining that he hasn't offered the country a clear vision for the future.

It may sound like the Times on John Kerry in 2004. In fact, it's the Times on Bill Clinton in 1992.

8. Kerry needs more organization out here in the swing states
In Ohio, the Bushies are already doing house parties and personal level organizing. All the Bush zealots already have their bumper stickers and campaign pins and are wearing them prominently.

JK has some catching up to do

9. I'm down with you on this!
The DU is 6-8 months ahead of the general population in political awareness. I see no upside to Bush's approvals, plenty of more downside, though. The economy is in the crapper right beside our foreign policy. His incompetence is becoming more apparent every day. I can't wait to see the debates....that will seal it for those who haven't been paying attention.

Besides, what Democrats would vote Bush today? How many Independents will switch their vote from 2000? How many Republicans will change their mind or stay home on Election Day?

10. April 2004 - the month when the wheels started coming off. . .
Edited on Wed May-05-04 01:00 PM by frankzappa
the incumbent candidate's campaign.

The torture photographs from Iraq have just become W's "Rodney King" moment.

(This is in reference to the May 1992 aftermath of the acquittal of the police officers who beat up black motorist Rodney King - caught on videotape - in their first trial. A riot flared up in Los Angeles over that weekend. President George H.W. Bush made some remarks to try to calm things down, and he came across as in ineffectual wimp completely out of touch with average working-class and poor Americans. It was the beginning of the end for his re-election bid.)

Methinks history is repeating itself here.

11. Bush is doing badly enough without any extra help
Edited on Wed May-05-04 02:10 PM by rocknation
Kerry mustn't make Dean's mistake of peaking too soon. And why waste money on negative Bush ads when Bush is doing such a good job of screwing HIMSELF up? Stay the course, President Kerry--take the positive, moral high road; attack only when attacked personally; save your money for when the real campaigning starts, and force the media spotlight to remain focused on the miserable failures of Bush's policies.
