Kanjorski claims Bush has failed the American people

BY MARY JO FELDSTEIN / STAFF WRITER 08/09/2003

WILKES-BARRE -- U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Nanticoke, told about 20 seniors gathered to listen about Medicare on Friday that the Bush administration has "absolutely, categorically" failed the American people.

-snip-

"If they're willing to lie about weapons of mass destruction, then maybe they are lying about weapons in North Korea," Mr. Kanjorski said.

Mr. Kanjorski said the result of America's failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq is "nations are starting to laugh at America and laugh at our president."

"We may have inadvertently turned ourselves into war criminals," Mr. Kanjorski said.

-snip-

U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood, R-Tunkhannock Township, interviewed before the follow-up interview, described Mr. Kanjorski's original comments as "absolute horse- - -." Mr. Sherwood said he does not see it as particularly important whether weapons of mass destruction are found or not.

"This weapons of mass destruction argument -- I don't get it," Mr. Sherwood said. "I don't think it's too important."
