13. Kerry Said Next To Nothing!

Didn't anyone here besides me see Kerry's well measured and prepared comments? How in the world anyone can think that Kerry has decided to hit hard, to play hardball on this matter is a mystery to me. Kerry's statement had to be just about the best statement George Bush could hope for from someone who is allegedly running against him for President of the United States!

Kerry said on CNN that he doesn't "want to shoot from the hip" on this matter. He did mention that he called for Rumsfeld's resignation some months ago.

But on this scandal he's "waiting" for more "facts" to be developed!
OK

Kerry mumbled on about the need for President to take responsibility and how Bush owes the world an explanation, but, it seemed like Kerry really wanted to avoid addressing the issue head on and preferred to get onto another subject. His statement was far more "moderate" than any other Republican or Democratic Senators statements I have seen on TV. If I didn't know any better I would have thought I was watching a Republican response!

Kerry might not have even addressed this matter if press hadn't pushed him.

Ralph Nader appeared right after Kerry on CNN and unlike Kerry took an anti-Bush and anti-war position just as Dennis Kucinich has. Kerry of course cannot challenge Bush on the war because he supported the invasion and supports the occupation.

Nader criticized Kerry for not having a withdrawl strategy from Iraq. I would guess that is because Kerry still does not favor withdrawing our soldiers from Iraq.

If you want to find out how a candidate for President is challenging George Bush on the treatment of Iraqi prisoners go here:

23. When he's right on the issues, we'll say so.
According to the poster who reported in some detail, HE'S WEASELING AGAIN, AND WE'LL SAY SO THEN TOO.

Get a life. If your candidate can't take legitimate criticism, he shouldn't be a candidate.

And Dennis is STILL a candidate. Maybe your group is the splinter, ever think of that?

25. Having Heard The Statements, Sir
They did not strike me as waffling or weaseling, but as forceful and Presidential. The fact is that some are pre-disposed to denigrate Sen. Kerry, for reasons best known to themselves, and clearly having nothing to do with the positions or actions of the Senator during his career, or in this campaign.

Persons who indulge in criticism must be prepared to take it in their turn, yet most of those who insist on criticizing Sen. Kerry from splinterist positions squeal loudly when any criticism comes in their direction.

"There will be a holiday in our street soon!"

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

24. Bush is digging his own hole, Kerry only has to hand him a shovel
Why waste political capital on this until all the facts are in? Bush is doing a fine job burying himself with Iraq troubles. It would be used against Kerry if it is seen that he is politicizing this issue.

34. Kerry On CNN transcript
CNN Transcript

KERRY: ... undermines the overall effort of the United States in the region. So I think it is important to have an understanding of this as rapidly as possible, and to make that explanation and any other appropriate comments to the world.

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE)?

KERRY: Well, on the second part of the question, I called for Secretary Rumsfeld's resignation months ago based on his miscalculations with respect to Iraq and based on the lack of a plan to win the peace. With respect to this particular incident, we've got to have the facts.

I want to know, as I think Americans do, is this isolated? Does it go up the chain of command? Who knew what, when?

All of those questions have to be answered. So I don't want to shoot from the hip on that. I think it's very important to have those questions answered as rapidly as possible.

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE)?

KERRY: No matter what happens, some American troops under some circumstance have engaged in behavior that I've said and everybody else has said is absolutely unacceptable. I think the world needs to hear from the president that the United States of America regrets any kind of abuse of this kind or any kind of effort like this because we have to show the world that we're willing to correct our own mistakes, that we're willing to be responsible for things that don't live up to our values and don't live up to our best traditions.

I think everybody in the military that I know would be deeply disturbed by this. And so I think it's important for the United States to take responsibility when it is appropriate.

David?

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE)?

KERRY: Well, let me just assure you that if I were president, we'd have a very different set of activities going on in Iraq today.

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE)?

KERRY: I'd want to get the facts. And when I get the facts, I'd hold the people accountable and I'd make appropriate statements, David.

QUESTION: (OFF-MIKE)?

KERRY: I just said in answer to the question previously, I think the United States needs to -- the person who speaks on behalf of it, the president of the United States, needs to offer the world an explanation and needs to take appropriate responsibility. And if that includes apologizing for the behavior of those soldiers and what happened, we ought to do that.

38. I heard the press conference and he was very cautious but this
is one of those things that's a political bomb----if he stands up and calls for Rummy's resignation without some two hundred page report that finds Rummy guilty (and that will never happen), Bush will scream that to attack the Sec. of Defense in WARTIME is aiding and abetting the enemy.da de da de da.......you know how the chant goes and that will feed right into "John the war protester" which will feed right into "see, like all those scummy Dems, he doesn't support our troops either and will let the evildoers kill you in your beds while you sleep and eat your children" and that will lead to--oh, well, you get the picture. That's the problem with anything that goes wrong with this goddamn war. The worse the fuckups the more the people "rally around" their very own little "fuck up".
