8. Will Dennis Miller violate Heisenberg's Law?
Since we already know the trajectory of this sad little video particle (tracking steadily dowward), and the ratings are giving its size (vanishingly small) and location (somewhere right of Scarborough-Land, could Dennis Miller (R - Used To Be Occasionally Amusing Long Ago) break one of the fundamental tenets of physical science?

Enquiring minds want to know, but they don't want to have to bother tuning in!

6. This goes to show just how bad it has gotten
Fox has all but one of its shows above every show on every other cable news outlet. And even that show is only below Larry King Live. The good news is that the worst personalities seem to be doing the worst. To see Zahn, Miller, Scarborough, and Norville in 4 of the bottom 5 spots does help a little. I do wish Olberman were doing better.

9. I wonder what a liberal news-talk-variety show would rate?
Donahue was getting a 0.5 on MSNBC, as I recall, and MSNBC cancelled him to be "more patriotic" or whatever. And Donahue, bless his heart, is an aging geezer with a fraction of his old fire. Where are the liberals?

Oh, I forgot, we can only have liberals on Comedy Central. Well, maybe Chappelle and Colbert could tag-team it on the Gore News Network.

12. Dennis gambled
and lost. He thought he'd get the O'Reilly/Hannity/Rush treatment. Million dollar deals and bonuses and books. His show is painful to watch, no matter what your politics are. The interview with Eric Alterman did it for me. Miller couldn't keep up so he got churlish and petty. He looked like Bush. Outflanked and outwitted. He even had the same desperation showing on his face. Alterman kicked his ass. He'll never recover from that beating. Liberals loved to see him fall and the repugs were disgusted with his weakness. Put a fork in him; he's done.

32. Exactly. Miller is actually smarter than Hannity...
...not that that's saying much. Hannity's an idiot--and I know I'd feel that way even if I were a Repug, because facts is facts. But Miller just doesn't have it. Yes, his show is painful. Yes, he looked like Bush when Alterman kicked his ass.

And I can't think of a more meaningful insult than that: He looked like Bush.

22. I'm Curious About Those Other Numbers...
I could care less about Miller...but you have a listing there that only lists 1 CNBC show, also it doesn't have Anderson Cooper in there. Also how does this rate against The Daily Show or other cable networks.

Now what is this "most desireable" demographic...or are we left to guess. Also, it's be nice if you linked your source for this info and mentioned the rating period as well.

Cheers!

24. the data isn't mine
Anderson Cooper wouldn't be in there due to his show not being prime time. (His show is at 7pm). I have no idea why CNBC has only one show on the list, though it might be the fact that they do mostly economic shows and those would be a different kettle of fish. The most desirable demo is young males according to advertisers.

28. This List Is Incomplete
Primetime is 8pm-11pm EDT...your list includes Sheppard Smith and Hardball...both are on 7pm-8pm. So what is it? Is Cooper primetime or not?

There's also no mention, as I have said, of the other CNBC shows.

A source for these numbers would be nice, since casually looking at the sites I know have the latest Arbitron cable ratings and a quick google didn't show that list anywhere I could find. A link would be appreciated.

Yes, young males are a desireable demo to advertisers...but not the ones who'd be looking at CNBC. They'd be on Spike or ESPN. The news networks make their money off different demos.

I know you want to make Miller look bad, but all we need to is watch the slob, that says it all. If CNBC is happy with this show, so be it...just don't buy GE lightbulbs.

37. Just Pointing Out A Game That's Played Against Us
It's taking numbers, jumbling them and using them out of context. Obviously the sufficient data for you to post with them and attempt to make a point. It's all well and good if you've got solid data...sources, ratings period, demographics and as much back-up as possible.

I've played with ratings enough to know numbers can be twisted, distorted and conveluted very easy. Please, let's avoid the same gotcha games the Freepers and others love to play.

Cheers!

39. I didn't post it
do you get that? Frankly I think that the numbers are pretty close to accurate given the aggregate ratings for those channels. Looking at CNBC I can see why their shows were left out other than the 10pm show. Both shows which preceed Miller are financial type shows or a news cast. I have no clue what Brit Hume is doing on the list. He is at 6pm and not relevant at all.

40. Last Post...You Started The String...
...and used those numbers in your initial post. OK, so you grabbed those numbers from someone elses post. Doesn't change the fact you cited numbers and all I asked for was some qualifications on those numbers.

How can you say the numbers are "accurate" when you can't site the source of those numbers, when those numbers are from, who was sampled and so on. Just the term "accurate" when you deal with such ratings (virtually all anaylsis is purely absract interpretations since those numbers are weighted along formulas you nor I have access to) is also a falicy.

Now if you were to show that according to Men 25-54 MSNBC beats Faux at 8pm-9pm EST in the Winter rating period, then we have somewhere to go, something to base the discussion on.

Yep, I'm being anal about this, since, again, this is a common tactic by the Right Wing in distorting and distracting from facts and issues. Throw numbers to muddle the waters and then hope they stick so it makes it hard to refute them.

Point taken, Miller's show sucks and I wouldn't doubt the only people who watch him are those whose remotes are broken and they're too lazy to get up and change the channel...or are paid to watch. Hell, until a couple people posted his name here the other night, I forgot his lame trashheep was still going. Let sleeping dogs lie. The best exhile for scum like Miller is irrelevancy.
