2. Yeah, you're actually playing into Disney's hands with this one.
Disney has NOTHING to do with Shreks 1 or 2.

10. after reading the first 2 replies to the original post
I went back to see if I missed something. Nope.

The original post DOESN"T mention Shrek 1 or 2. (haven't seen 2, but one was fantastic!)

Am I missing something here, or is this just another case (too common at DU) where you didn't read the original post?

4. READ the damn Public release
there is a nice piece of info in there that I am sure escaped you

Hidden in the usual PR pap there is this line, "we are being forced to do this (blackmailed) because Jeb told us we do release this, he will make business in Florida very expensive.

PLEASE THINK and REAAD the PR RELEASE... it is sophisticated I know, and many are missing it

14. And if he DOES try to make doing business in Fla. expensive for Disney..
They can always retaliate against him by threatening to move, putting, oh, 20,000+ people out of full-time employment because of the "difficulties" HE created!x(

And you'd have YET ANOTHER Bush screwing the U.S. economy!:eyes:

B-)

5. I'm waiting to see what happens...
I've seen some interesting posts that suggest this could all be a publicity ploy to generate interest (and big bucks) for the film. Drop Disney, if they don't reconsider.

By the way... I think Dreamworks is distributing Shrek 2.

11. It is more than a stunt
It is also a way to LET you and ME know that the Fixer
has come and told Disney, you put this out, we will make this
so damn expensive that you will be sorry.

And the movie, as succesful as it may be, does not equal the
tax loopholes disney gets to operate in Florida... I am not
saying that Jeb would like Disney to go, but would not hurt
his base of Fundies, now would it?

7. Actually, their cartoons stink - unfunny. Bugs Bunny rules!
Thing is, I am not sure we can do it - we need to concentrate on a smaller target within Disney.
This is from someone whose kid has no idea who Mikey Mouse is (nor Nemo, Toy Story, etc)

8. In fact, rumor has it that they purposely made Shrek's face...
To look like Michael Eisner's face!:eyes:

Have NO fear...I'm sure that Michael Moore IS going to get his movie released...and by the summer, too!:D

12. On the other hand...
...Disney owns ABC, which runs ABCNews, which includes Nightline, which pissed of the pubbies when Ted Koppel spent the evening remembering the names and faces of the troops killed in Iraq.

So maybe something evens out somewhere.

Just sayin'.

13. Anybody remember the Subhumans?

Mickey Mouse is dead
Got kicked in the head
Cos people got too serious
They planned out what they said
They couldn't take the fantasy
They tried to accept reality
Analyzed the laughs
Cos pleasure comes in halves
The purity of comedy
They had to take it seriously
Changed the words around
Tried to make it look profound
The comedian is on stage
Pisstaking for a wage
The critics think he's great
But the laughter turns to hate

Mickey Mouse is on T.V.
And the kids stare at the screen
But the pictures are all black and white
And the words don't mean a thing
Cos Mummy's got no money
And Daddy is in jail
He couldn't afford the license
She couldn't afford the bail

The kids out in the road
Their minds have all gone cold
Cos Mickey Mouse is dead
They shot him through the head
With ignorance and scorn
They believed in something new
They read the papers watched the films
And they thought they new the truth

But reality deceives
Whatever you believe
There's always another idea
And theirs is based on fear
The fear of being sussed
For what you really are
The fear of being laughed at
When you go too far

They call it paranoia
You can laugh it away
Until you come to realize
That everyone's the same
People hide their problems
Under faces of contempt
They hide them 'til it kills them
And no one is exempt
Not even you
Look what you done to Mickey Mouse

19. Cast Mickey Mouse into Boston Harbor
This is one reason why corporate largesse -- especially in telecommunications -- is antithetical to democracy. In a democracy, each citizen has an equal right to participate in civic affairs and to have his voice heard. His message is irrelevant to that principle.

For Disney to engage in this kind of corporate censorship is not to promote freedom but corporate tyranny. To boycott Disney over this kind of corporate tyranny is no different than boycotting British tea over the Stamp Act.

I hear by cast Mickey Mouse into Boston Harbor.
