Bush, Kerry tour buses made in Canada

Associated Press

MAUMEE, Ohio - President Bush rode across Ohio on Tuesday in a bus emblazoned, "Yes, America can."

Turns out the bus was made in Canada.

So was the "Real Deal Express" that Democrat John Kerry rode earlier in the year.

Both were made by Prevost Car, which is owned by the Swedish Volvo Bus Corp. and Britain's Henly's Group PLC. Its manufacturing facility is in St. Claire, Quebec.

14. Press Release straight from the RNC:

Apparently Kerry's bus from the primaries was made in Canada, but the one he's using now was built in the U.S.

The Luxury Bus

President Bush spent the past two days attempting to connect with average Americans in important swing states. Residents of Ohio and Michigan – two key manufacturing states – have been hit the hardest by his economic plans, so it probably wasn't a reassuring site for them to watch the president saunter down the steps of his luxury bus and tell them everything was going to be A-OK.

It was certainly a strange way to connect with the people. President Bush toured from site to site on a bus that featured a kitchenette, leather furniture and a flat screen TV. Oh, and did we mention that it was made in Canada? Because it was. Yes, that's right, President Bush showed up in Detroit, Michigan in a foreign-made automobile. How's that for outsourcing?

The Bush team's defense? Campaign spokesman Scott Stanzel assured everyone that the tires, paint, and engine were all American-made. Whew, otherwise that would be completely embarrassing.

A bus tour is supposed to symbolize a commitment to old-style, no-frills, people-first politics. The Bush team couldn't even keep up with this façade for two days. And, it actually gets worse: The bus was a complete prop – President Bush flew from Detroit to Toledo, and later Toledo to Dayton, then boarded the bus for a series of small-town stops. 4. The repukes in Traverse City MI tried to make J Granholm...
ride in a foreign car during the National Cherry Festival parade in 2002 (the year she was elected governor).

Granholm walked the parade route with us staffers instead.

It's a really big deal in Michigan.

15. It's a dodge issue so the media won't have to deal. . .
with the country's real problems.

Think of it this way: It doesn't matter if the pipes are clay or plastic, PVC or steel, so long as the waste is being carried away.

16. I agree. These fools(GOP)are making some big time screw ups. This is petty,
let's pound them on the important issues. This nonissue sounds like something Karl Rove would come up with.

17. "Yes America Can!" tour
With a Canadian made bus through some of the states who have lost the most manufacturing jobs in the country. Seems a little more than insensitive, seems downright arrogant and oblivious.
