How likely is terrorist attack on US before election?
I keep hearing the words "probably" or "will happen" when reading articles about terrorist attacks before the election.
Ok, I wanna know what all of you think? I would think if terrorists want Bush to win they will not try to attack us before the election.

Additionally, all of this "probably will happen" talk is really scaring the shit out of me. I live in nyc where subways are hardly secure. My family and I take the subway everyday. What am I supposed to do, just not take the subway? These warnings are just scary. Anyway...your thoughts! thanks!

3. Depending upon your definition of "terrorist" and "attack"...

... 100% chance.

Another Pearl Harbour event; probably not.
An Oklahoma City style event: likely.
A Disney/Miramax or Sinclair type event: guaranteed.

On edit:
Clarification.

5. I have a sick feeling that we will experience another attack this summer.
And I know that many on this board are tired of my Doomsayer thinking but I feel that we have the most evil administration ever and they will do ANYTHING to maintain power and control over the US and the "free" world.
I dont think that NYC will get it again. Nor do I see any conservative city getting hit.

9. Agree. I believe an attack would rally 'Murikens to Bush*, the
"support the commander-in-chief" thing. If they are behind in the polls, they would have no problem creating a terrorist event.

13. Much like Super Heros need...
Super Villians to exist to make a good story to amuse young readers, Al Quida needs the Bush administration to exist to fuel its own swelling ranks of volunteers. Keeping this in mind I think that Al Quida not only wants but NEEDS the Bush administration in place.

The American public, having seen what happened to Spain, would never "Let those A-Rab's win!" and vote against Bush if we had a similiar terrorist attack. If there is one thing that you can count on America for, its our "Don't Tread On Me!" attitude... at least when they are told to feel that way by the spindoctors in the media.

I can easily see another LIHOP scenerio, someone else taking the fall, Bush ending up on TV crying, praying, and swearing vengence, and the American public swallowing it hook line and sinker.

Check out this great article from back in February posted on Alternet

8. The odds are increasing daily
with every additional screw-up by this administration. Pre-emptive war, no WMD's, the hubris and arrogance of bush, torture of Iraqi prisoners, large numbers of civilian casualties, etc.

Bush has created so much hatred, he has personally given birth to a whole new generation of terrorists who will try to kill us.

10. cynical as it sounds, i think it's almost guaranteed.
condi's already primed us for it. and it fits in with their tactic of trying to scare the nation into voting for them.

of course, they may be a little wary, given how the spanish reacted when the terrorists struck them. so they'll still have the diebold machines ready to spin like vegas slots, just in case people get independent-minded.

11. I'm in NYC, too
And, I've got to tell you, it's going to happen and the subway scares the shit out of me, too. I've even gone so far, on occasion, to wake up half an hour early so I'm not on the 2/3 or the A/C from Wall St to 42nd street between 8:30 and 9:00 in the morning (yes, I'm in therapy for this, thanks for your concern!). I think it's going to be a long, stressful summer, sorry to say.

12. In the same year as 9/11...
over 18,000 people were killed by drunk drivers in the U.S.

As a practical matter drunk drivers were 6 time more dangerous to you that year. In any _average_ years drunk drivers kill 30 times more people than terrorists.

Stop worrying about terrorists and start worrying about drunk drivers. They are 30 times more dangerous to you than Osama and all his minions.

What's worse is that drunk drivers can strike you no matter where you are in the country, while terrorists, when they hit a single target, are dangerous only to the people at that target.

And I haven't even touched on how many more people are killed by tobacco than are killed by terrorists.

In truth, your odds of winning the state lottery 5 times in a row are better than your odds of ever being injured by a terrorist. It seems like a bigger danger because when it happens it's noisy and gets a lot of media attention while the 18,000 drunk driving deaths are quiet and get ignored by the media.

26. 18,000 a year
works out to 1 death a day, in each of 50 states, every day of the year. I'd be willing to bet that non/alcoholic driver error, distraction, medical, mechanical caused accidents are just as high if not higher.

The next terra attack will be much larger . these psychopathic serial killers are working in exponetial order if you haven't noticed yet.

14. I want to know why someone hasn't nailed Bush on those ignorant
speeches he's been making where he leans on the podium and outright giggles and laughs and says "this would be the ideal time" and if he were a terrorist he couldn't pass up this opportunity. What the hell is different with that crap than when he bellowed "bring it on"??? He should have been taken apart for those remarks. Like I've always said: with a president like this, who needs evildoers???

15. No, not before the election.
If it looks as if the BFEE didn't or can't pull it off, then there will be something after the election as an excuse for Martial Law.

That is why we must impeach them now.

17. I would say a "terrorist" attack
will be on the SF Golden Bridge at rush hour. They removed the National Guard from it just recently because of the cost. Actually, don't those guards get paid either way? Guarding the bridge or staying in camp?

18. v ery likely as days go on and Bush screws up more
but then, that is to his advantage. Why should he try to stop it? He has no considerations for us, the common man. He only is concerned about his own election, and if elected can do more to insure that his buddies Halliburton and the like, will be able to make more money than ever before.

I think smirky will do the Golden Gate Bridge. I hope I'm wrong, but I've had the feeling for a long time. He hates California, especially the Bay area, and he probably wants to do something out west, just to mix it up a little.

23. And risk angering the Gubenator?
Seriously even I don't think he'd sink so low as to pick the targets himself :) I just think he may turn another blind eye to whatever target the bin ladenkateers are thinking of at the time.

Do you guys think he'd sink so low as to have someone slip and "suggest" a target to these folks?

Something like, "A vote for Kerry is a vote for a weaker America! Take this undefended chemical plant near downtown St. Louis... home of Boeing fighter jet factory and weapons research facility! This would be totally vulnerable if I am not here to help guard it again after November!"

heh.

24. 1% likely to happen here. They are out to hit our economic interests
They know this will hurt us more. As far as hitting inside the US, they already accomplished what they wanted to do on 9/11. The US is out of Saudi Arabia (military out and civilians following), Saddam has been removed (Osama hated him), and the US is in a state of perpetual paranoia and will be for the rest of our lives.

27. An attack by middle-east terrorists would be unlikely...
They know an attack just before the US election would propel Bush back into the White House, so perhaps they plan to lie low and hope Kerry wins the White House.

Now an attack by "private contractors" is another question...

terrorist attack, 100%, What will they have to lose? Just like when Bush's poll numbers were dropping like a rock before 9-11 and his right-wing agenda was going to go down the drain...Surprise 9-11...then he starts making those silly tough speeches written for him by someone else and the diminutive little AWOL lying fuck Bush...starts moving back up in the polls with his bullshit tough talk...the little pee wee Bush, all talk, couldn't even kick Cheney ass, with a bad heart, on Bush's best day...so he starts spewing out this tough talk like he's a real cowboy or something...piece of shit phony...needs Cheney to hold his hand to talk to the 9-11 committee because he's a fuck up, he'd blow it if left alone, and admit his complicity in 9-11...Cheney even has to hold his tiny little dick, (because Bush can't find it) when he needs to take a piss!!!
